The July 2007 TDG
Truck of the Month belongs to Robts. Rob is the owner of
this kick ass 2004 F350 Lariat. About the only thing left stock on
this truck might be the steering wheel. This truck has done a total
transformation into what you see before you. Read on to understand
what we mean.
The truck is powered by the venerable
6.0L diesel. As everyone knows...if you are going to get serious about
HP with the 6 liter...serious modifications need to be done. Rob
installed ARP headstuds to ensure that the coolant and diesel fuel
don't mix. Speaking of diesel fuel...the truck is fueled by a FASS
150/180 pump, which then leads to a DJ Fuel Intensifier non regulated
return system. Full Force Diesel 225cc injectors built by Ryan
Casserly squirt the fuel into the cylinders. The motor breathes
through an AFE Stage 2 intake system with the Proguard 7 filter. A
VGT-ss turbo built by Elite Diesel pushes the air into the Spearco
Intercooler before its fed back into the motor. If the tuning supplied
by either Kermit or DJ doesn't supply Rob with enough power...a ZEX
nitrous kit ensures that all the diesel is burnt. The diesel fumes
exit through a MBRP dual 6" stainless steel stack kit. With all this
power on tap...a stout tranny is required. A Suncoast transmission
with a billet input shaft and a triple disc torque converter now
resides behind the 6 liter. A Mag Hytech tranny pan is also in place
to hold extra fluid and enable better cooling.
With this much work on the
engine...attention has to be focused on other parts of the truck. The
truck has been lifted 6 1/2" thanks to a Procomp lift, and the front
and rear pumpkins have been outfitted with 4:56 gears with a Detroit
Truetrac in the rear diff. Helping to ensure the 37x13.5x22 Toyos stay
firmly planted on terra firma...Fox racing shocks (dual fronts, single
rears) with "k" valving are in place. The reservoirs are held in place
with Fox billet clamps. To keep the rear axle from hopping around...FarmBoyFab
ladder bars are on the way. The Toyos are wrapped around Eagle alloy
chrome wheels.
Rounding out the
exterior mods include a 2006 front end conversion with help from Bill
at Dfuser. Billet badges with F-SVT Limited Edition on them gets the
ricer boys wondering what the truck is...and tinted windows keep the
ricers from seeing the grin on Rob's face when he leaves them at the
lights. An Extang Tonneau cover with holes cut out for the stacks
keeps the sleek look working.
With the outside of the truck done...it
was time to work on the inside. With the truck being a Lariat...it
already has the full leather package. Helping Rob to keep an eye on
the 6 liter...Autometer Ultra II gauges are mounted on the A-pillar.
An Alpine indash DVD player has been installed. A 10.5" overhead
monitor has also been mounted in place...with a second DVD player
mounted in the dash. This allows his daughter to watch one movie in
the backseat...while Rob watches another movie up front. Of
course...he's parked or waiting in line while watching this movie.
When Rob feels the need for tunes...1200 watts of power fed by the PPI
amps into the Boston Pro Components speakers...with 4 10" JL Audio
Subs spanking him in the back of the head...Rob can drown out the
buzzing sound of the ricer boys.
With his current setup...Rob hit
579.4HP with 907 lb-ft of torque at the Grand Rock event in Ohio. This
was with a bad fuel pump and only 190cc injectors. With the bigger
sticks and a healthy fuel pump...Rob is shooting for 650+ HP at the
Scheids event.
On the "to do" list includes some train
horns so that when people get in his way...he can let them know of his
displeasure. A new heat exchanger hood from Keystone is also in the
works. The stereo is going to get complete reworked...with more power
of course. He also would like to convert the headlights to HD.
When Rob gets the chance to relax...he
takes the big truck out to the sandunes where he hunts other diesels
down...and usually embarrasses them. He attends the dyno events that
he can get to...and would like to get more involved with truck
pulling.
Pulling off a truck this good took a
team effort. Rob would like to shoot out thanks to blk350on20s,
Stuckinmud, and Unbroken for their wrenching help. DJ and Viv from DJ
Performance and Doug from DirectInjectionPerformance got Rob the tunes
he needs for this truck to run the way it is. A special thanks also go
out to cousin Mike for lending that helping hand when it was most
needed.
Along with having
his own truck webpage for a month, TDG awarded
Robts 100,000 points.
Again, congratulations
Rob. Remember, here at TDG it's always about the members!
