Building a ATV Speaker box need input on gear

So I plan on putting together a box for my Foreman. I want to run 4 speakers and most likely would only ever run my Ipod. So in need some feed back/input. I don't know a whole lot about speakers or amps.

1. Some people have suggested run a cheap reciever some people run an amp. A reciever is basicly a cheap 4 channel amp tho right? It should be able to power 4 speakers just like a car just fine. Is there an advantage to running an amp with a aux input over a head unit? I have seen both that could charge an ipod (USB input) so which one should I go with?

2. I was told the 6.5" speakers are the best simply because 6x9's are so big the box looks funny sometime. Any advice in picking speakers? Looking for some marine/waterproof that won't distort when the beer is flowing and the volume comes up

3. Will the ATV battery be big enough of should I rig up duals? One guy I have talked to said without a capacitor my battery would go out pretty quick. Input?

4. Just any other input in general would be great. Thanks guys.

car stereo is enough eh? Any need for a capacitor?

The box i found are 3/4 MDF, dude fiberglasses them and then herculines them. Might ask for herculiner on the inside to for extra water proof.

Bcarriveau... I tried to get the foreman off the ground when I was out like your Grizzly pic!! haha, thanks for the input.

Here is a link to audio tubes on an ATV website. http://forum.highlifter.com/search.a...h=audio%20tube

You can go there and do some searching and you'll find exactly what you need.

4swampin is right. Highlifter forums has more info and pics on this stuff than you care to look at.

if you are going to do anything as far as electrical stay far away from caps, unless you like to spend 130+ on a paper weight. If anything run 2 batteries. Any marine speaker (6.5) and marine deck w/ iPod connect would work perfectly. That way it charges your iPod and you have direct control through the headunit of it.

Honestly dude, 2-6" marine speakers will be good, no need to do 4 really. If i can find pictures of one i built i'll show ya. It had 2-6" marine speakers with marine radio made out of fiberglass. We put a box in the center that was also waterproof to hold misc items such as ipod, keys, phone, etc... worked great and had zero problems. Never had a cap or amp.

Now i've seen some with an extra battery with subs and speakers with amps and all that stuff.... yea, it's loud, but it also takes up a lot of space.

the guys on highlifter can help you out. Most of them have radios and have gone through one or two set ups.

Caps are usually around 1-5 Farad where as a normal sized car battery is roughly 2000f. Although motor cycle batteries are much smaller, the money you would spend on a cap, could just as easily be spent on a second battery with much better results.
