HELP!!! Oil coming out of the breather tube

My Dad has a 1999 model 2500 with the Cummins 24 valve under the hood. He is a big fan of the truck and the engine (transmission is another story) but the other night he noticed quite a bit of oil around the blow by tube and all over the steering box and everything else. At first we thought it was something else but then I noticed how wet is was inside the breather tube. He is starting to worry about this and wants to know if there is anything that we can do to fix this. He does not take it offroad or anything so I cant see where that could be an issue. The only thing he has done to it is put a K&N air filter in it and he put a Superchips programmer in it as well. It stays on performance tow all the time. Like I said the truck has always been taken care of so I just dont understand it. He cant stand a leaker and if something is about to go south on it or in it it would be nice to have a heads up!!If anyone can give me any info on this matter it would be great. I am a huge fan of this site and everyone is always helpful. Thanks again to everyone.

They all kind of blow oil out that breather tube. but usually its not enough to cover the steering box and everything. I would check on the back side of the timing case where the vacuum pump and power steering pump attach. there is a through shaft that runs through the vacuum pump and into the PS pump. The seals on this shaft tend to start leaking and can leak a lot of oil. When this happened to me, I thought the same thing, breather tube, but a little more looking lead me to the source. Hope this helps.

It's probably the seal between the vac and ps pumps.
Try this guy Fixinrams.com. He sells a better seal than what you will get with a new pump. and it's hundreds of dollars cheaper.

I got a redesigned one too. It's called a hose that let's it run out on the ground so it doesn't get all over the engine.

2001 Ram HO 4x4, edge hot juice, smarty, hot rod VP44,100hp injectors, custom twins stock hx35 over hx55 w/ external wastegate on hx35, straight piped, 650 hp clutch.

If you do any kind of serious offroading your be running all you oil out on the ground too...

no it's orginally just a cup thing that catches oil. when it fills up it makes a huge mess. I've never had any issues with oil running over, and I bounce around pretty good.
However I suppose yours is better. I always seem to be doing fix jobs on the spot, in the dirt, or at night. Most of my work isn't textbook, but it does the job for me.

I had the same problem, but mine was bad piston rings. pop the oil cap off, hold your hand over the hole w/ the truck running, and make sure there is no air pressure pushing against your hand. good luck, I hope the above posts are where the problem is and not rings
