Just purchased a 86 Case 580E and the brakes leave a lot to be desired. Haven't dug into it yet. Anyone know what I might can expect?
Don't know about the 580E but When I had a 580C the brakes were a piece of s**t. (actually the whole machine was)
I have seen larger brakes on motorcycles. The C had a external band around a small drum. As you applied brakes the braking torque would cause some internal pads through a ball and ramp setup to press against the side of the drum sort of like a disc. Dont remember but the drum was maybe 6".
I know have a Cat 420D and it is a far superior machine.
