Pulling a sled or drag racing check the rules first. If it is a local ,,, run what you bring event then you can build what you can afford. But most places today have safety requirements and classes, if that is the case then you will need to build to run in a class.
Twins are great but a big turbo with a restrictor bushing may let you run say a 2.4 or 2.6 class. A big single will be sluggish and hard to spool unless you run a automatic with a loose torque converter (high stall) and lock up button plus you can shift a automatic if it is built strong enough. With all you will need to buy and build I would try to stay street stock class. Think about it you are going to need traction bars, axle blocks, a locker front and back, axle loop,,, and the list goes on. A built automatic will set you back, depending on just how much power you are going to make.
