Exclamation White smoke from exhaust?

Ok so I'm a new owner of a 2005 Ford Excursion Eddie Bauer edition, and Im not a diesel expert and don't know everything about diesels if they are different from gasoline engines! Ok well i have white smoke coming out of my exhaust when my truck idles and no other time? And it's pretty hefty of the amount of smoke that comes out.

When I bought the truck the previous owner said he replaced the injectors and injector cups 3 months previous to me buying it, and he never told me if he flush the coolant system and I found diesel fuel in my coolant which is from the cups leaking by I am told. I flushed it and ran simple green through it to clean the fuel out and it's been fine.

So if anyone could let me in on some stuff to check into about this and if it something I should really worrie about!

How does the truck run? Smooth idle...good power...starts easy? Does it smoke all the time, cold and warm engine temps? Your coolant condition should be monitored, make sure you are not losing coolant and having to add any coolant. Keep the coolant level at the minimum line or just below it. Your white smoke condition could be(EGR valve or EGR cooler related, or a constant leaking fuel injector issue).
You can pull the EGR valve out(2-bolts hold it in place on top front of intake manifold-see the 6.0 bible in the stickies section at the top of this forum for locations) and check down inside the intake manifold hole where the valve comes up out of, and if it's sooty and dry, then your ok, just clean the valve and vacuum out the hole. If it's wet down inside the hole, then your EGR cooler has failed.

A small amount of white smoke can be considered normal when cold. Could be from the fuel you are using or moisture in the exhaust system. Keep an eye on that coolant. May take a couple of flushings to get all the fuel out! I find dishwasher soap works well.

Don't want to throw bad news at you, but Ford has found that most of the time you have fuel in the coolant it is due to cracked heads (not injector cups). Not saying that is your situation, but I would keep an eye on it.

AS you speculated, the fuel in coolant could be residue that was never cleaned out. For that situation, I would just keep an eye on the coolant and see if the fuel returns. If it does there is a possibility that one of the cups or injectors were put in improperly. But before I would get worried I would see if the fuel returns.

As far as the idle smoke, does it have a sweet smell and are you loosing coolant? If sweet, most likely coolant. If not, it can be an sticking injector that is pushing too much fuel. Or worst case poor compression on one or more cylinders. The best way to check that is have a dealer run a compression test with the software.

Mine poured white smoke at idle when the bearings in my turbo was going out . The oil from the turbo was burning off in the exhaust . Turbo wasnt making any strange noises at the time either. I could see the oil in my exhaust pipe.
