what does a turbo sound like when its going bad?

Ok I have been having an issue with my boost being about 5-8lbs of boost lower then it used to be. that is besides the point. On the way home today pulling the trailer I noticed a wistling noise.....then it got louder and the pitch changed with the boost. Im wondering if my bearings are going on my turbo....thougts.

Sounds like it may be a boost leak in the air to air piping. I've never messed with a 6.0 turbo, but I the one's I've replaced on semi trucks didnt give much early warning- they just kind of ground the bearings and died.

I'd check the intercooler boots first.

pretty much. When I was towing with the tow file w/jake brake it would do it while decelerating too. Im confused on what it may be.

if you get a chance, take your intake off and see how much endplay there is in the turbo shaft, if it seems slopy and u can actualy feel/here it move, its junk. theres supossed to be a tiny bit of movement for clearance its kinda hard to explain.

We had one go out on an 06. The only warning sign was when you shut the motor down you could hear the veins scraping the sides of the turbo, sounded like a metal fan that was just barely scraping its metal shroud. This went on for about a month and then the tubo just quite working.
