6.0 losing coolant!! can i get some tips

hey everyone I opened my big mouth on the white smoke thread now my truck is losing coolant. So I just ordered the 6.0 solution kit with egr cooler upgrade from sinister diesel. I could find the threads with search I know theres tons of them on here though. Can anyone give me the process run down of tear down on the 6.0 for taking the heads off. any tips are helpful also what are your thoughs truck never over heated or anything and get 15 mpg around town should I send the heads out somewhere to get checked out any idea on cost. I'm almost tapped out just buying the kit to fix the truck but I need to get it fixxed gonna start tear down tonight after work. thanks for any help.

I've never seen a write-up on head removal, but here is a link for the parts your gonna need.Parts list needed for performing headgaskets or installing studs

You really should send the heads out to be checked. I paid $350 for them to be checked for flatness, maganfluxed for cracks, and pressure tested. this price also included milling off .006" of the heads and new valve guilds.

yeah don't know if you've seen them but sinister diesel has a 6.0 solution kit that has every thing you need for parts for the whole kit studs, gaskets, oil cooler, egr cooler upgrade it came to $1383. I though that would probly be the best priced way to go. thanks for info

well I figure better safe then sorry I see a alot of what ifs. what if it is just the cooler, what if its cause some kind of damage to the head gaskets, what if the oil cooler is pluged up which caused the egr cooler to have problems. see where im going with this. even though it will take me more time and money to fix my truck i'd rather just tear into it once and have that be the end of it.
So does anyone have any tips for this tear down or know where theres a step by step tear down??????

theres plenty of testing that you can perform before tearing the motor down.

monitor the temperature differential of the ECT & EOT.
test the coolant for combustion gases.
run a compression test.

the 6.0s blow far fewer head gaskets that people think.

if your blowing coolant out the degas bottle or loosing it out the bottle then you have blown headgaskets... I have yet to seen a bad cooler blow coolant out the degas tank.... If you are loosing it and you see white smoke and coolant is in the intake then you have a blown EGR cooler... I would check EOT and ECT to see if you need an oil cooler also.

...its POSSIBLE but certainly no confirmation !

if anything he's more likely to be FLASH BOILING the coolant which is
returned to the degas bottle via the rubber hose thats connected
between the two !

either way i'd rather just fix the truck once say it is just the cooler then next year im towing my trailer and tractor either to or from mass which i have plans to do in the spring and then the head bolts stretch and now the gaskets are blown i'd have to take all the same parts back off again besides I think it was cheaper to get every thing as a kit rather than one at a time. instead of trying to tell me what part of the engine is blown could some one please give me some tips on pulling it apart would you guys get the heads check also any good places to send them to?? Do I have to take the injectors out?? whats the best way to lift the head is there a spot for lifting on them or something??? thanks much
