I'm looking at a couple of trucks ( ie. GM 6.2,6.5. ord 6.9,7.3) and was wondering what the fuel mileage should be on a 1992 Crew Cab auto with 7.3. I don't know the gear ratio all I know is it is an auto with 150K on it. I'm getting rid of my bike for a truck so fuel mileage is a big concern ( I know I'm not going to be any where near the bike, but I need a truck). Thanks for any info.
I have a 1993 7.3 IDI and manage to get 17 to 18 mpg. That is mostly high way, usually going 70 or so at 2200 to 2300 rpm. In the city i drop down to 15 to 16 MPG. It all matters how you drive it, im not too agressive and manage to get pretty good MPG for a 15 year old truck. Also, i have 285's on my truck so that should cost me 1 mile or so.
I wonder how much this actually matters on a diesel. This past weekend I took the boat and family to the coast. Up and over 2 hills (1300ft) lots a semi flat driving. At fillup I got 14.7mpg. Typically around my rural area I get 13mpg. Hmmm 2000lb boat + two hills = better mileage

I think it matters a little bit. This was my fathers work truck before and with his welder and the rest of his tools its weight was a little over 9000lbs. the best he got was 12mpg on the highway in and out of Washington D.C. When I say I am not easy on it I mean I usually hold it flat.
