6.5 turbo starter issues

This has happened on my 6.5 non turbo and my 6.5 turbo trucks... The starter seems to want to push away from the flex plate when cranking, and ends up sliding over just enough to not mesh properly, and causing a laundry list of problems; chewed up starter teeth, flex plate teeth, pulling out the starter bolt threads, the non turbo even cracked the back of the block just behind the bolt holes for the starter! I have the little bracket on the front of the starter to the block on there. Any suggestions? I have 2 dead trucks for the same issue! I have to believe this is somewhat common and someone here has dealt with it! Thanks

yep i have been here before, there is a bracket at the back of the starter that should bolt the starter to the block i believe lot's of guy will leave it off cause it is a true pain the i can't say that here . . .

Anywho what happens is after a while of running without the bracket you'll break one bolt or the other some time it'll just oblong the starter bolt holes and allow it to move back . . .

Thanks Mike, you actually confirmed my suspicions. I do have that bracket on there. The previous owners of both trucks did not. When I had the first truck (the non turbo) I noticed the mounting point on the starter as indicated in your image, then searched and located the block mounting point. After a little research I found the bracket and have now installed them on my trucks. But my worry is as you said, the damage to the holes is already done! My only other thought is time certs, I just hope I can get them in properly with oblonged holes to work with.
