Evidently you don't know the difference between a Cummins KTA 600 and a Cummins Big Cam 400. Turn the fuel to a Big Cam 400 and crack the block around the head bolt holes...........turn the fuel up on a KTA 600 and hold on, you're going for a ride. I'm not saying that either the 3408 or the KTA were better back than compared to the motors of today.......the C-15/C-16 will out do both of them on the road today with the fuel cranked to them.

Both the 3408 and the KTA had problems when pushed hard, but with the right parts that are available now, I'd take the KTA over the 3408 if power was the only thing I wanted to build. If reliability and fuel mileage was in the equation along with power and street-ability...........the C-16 is my choice

I wanna see the day you turn that thing into a sled puller and go after Dave Greek and all them guys to see what a hot caterpillar will do against them guys.

I know I have seen barnetts truck give them a run for their money on the right track, but I think your truck would surprise them. I know the KT we pull with is the best running mechanical truck we pull with, but the guy with the very hot E model makes us look stupid.

The reason I was saying that is because the guy who said cat get owned has two big cams and he is in no position to say that considering a big cam is probably the biggest pos i have ever owned. I love how yall think the KTA is great greatest thing ever. Cat built the world while cummins built the anchors to hold it down!

Pretty harsh words against one of the most reliable motors built up until cummins screwed it up with STC, for the people still running mechanical motors they are a good option for cheap parts and good fuel mileage.

As Haney said you havent been around too many KTs, or your opinion would be different, they are in a class of their own these days, to me they are built more in the mind of a caterpillar, they are extremely overbuilt for a stock application.

Then there is the old saying there is no replacment for displacement.

Well my dads friend has a 2001 KW KTA-600 (more like 850) and he was pulling a lowboy and on a hill he passed a greyhound bus. The people on the bus were shocked to see a semi truck up shifting gears (10+4 transmission) on a hill, AND passing a greyhound bus with a lowboy.

Unless he did alot of work it's not a KT in a 2001 model truck. They haven been put in trucks since the early 80s same thing on the 3408.

I don't know much about Cats but if I understand right 3408 has same 11mm plungers in the pump as 3406 and I know how much fuel they can deliver in an inline pump, no matter if there is Cat or Bosch printed in the housing. Max 750-800 hp, a little bit more with all out smoke and sky high EGTs that burns your engine in 15 seconds. Cummins has 9.5mm unit pumps and they are good to at least 900 hp without smoke in 10 litre engine with stock injector travel. So without changing to 13mm Bosch pump it seems like 3408 gets owned.

And 1693 Cat, wasn't that some ancient pre-chamber engine?
