Water squirting out #1 head Cummins

Hello finishing up inframe Big Cam Cummins on Amodel ran into this snag when turning over the engine water squirts out from under the head I notice silicone around where the liners sit when we first install the liners the block was cut prior for lpf We installed the 20 thousands shims ,however the mechanic thinks the original silicone came from prior mechanics who maybe shaved too much and use the silicone to make up for it....any takes or recommendations...he is going to tear it back down tomorrow remove head and liners and bead the seat with the silicone.....

I was having a similar problem and it was a cracked counterbore. Mine was barely leaking just a little, not worthy of a teardown yet. I was told by the mechanic that a counterbore liner would be required at overhaul, but squirting is a different story.

Mechanic figured out what the problem was the when the block was cut for lpf the liners sat to low so what the previous mechanic did when they inframed it years ago was put a bead of silicone around the the lip and place the 20thousand shim on top of it and it level it out with the head ...so he is going to have to do the same thing. So they tore it all back down again mic every thing this old mechanic has taught me so much in the last week it's been unreal) he really knows his stuff I feel like I'll be able to do my next inframe

I don't see how the silicone will do much when the head is bolted down. LPF liner seal rings are available in 8 sizes from .0195" to 0.0620" to deal with situations like this.

Get a different mechanic. Silcone is not the way to go and the shim goes under the liner and who ever install the liners should have checked the liner protrusion.

The idea of using silicone sounds to me like the liner is going to be working up and down with every stroke of the piston. That will have to lead to a blown head gasket or worse down the road.

Who do you call when the lawmakers ignore the law?

Silicone was used per cummins under the ledge of the liner years ago untill the waranty was up. The silicone when put under the liner when the countebore was cracked did nothing but seal for a little while. I mean a little while. There is a .004 shim used for awhile on top of the liner of the N14 when the liner protruion was less than .004 when under warranty. This would get the engne out of warranty only.
