3126 running warmer than I'd like

Hello, new here and also to the CAT.

Here is what ive got.... Just bought the truck in my sig. Has 41k original miles. I had it to the freightliner dealer for several reasons... First... I found a rocker adjuster bolt in the oil drain pan when changing the oil... Freaked out and brought it in to check out. The truck ran fine and wasn't skipping so I figured it had been replaced. I was correct and freightliner adjusted the valves at the cost of $257 dollars.

On to the next find... I noticed the truck ran awfully warm around 220ish driving around empty. I found the water pump belt loose and dry rotted as can be. They replaced that along with the serpentine belt as well. They did a fuel filter change and also changed the high pressure oil line to the new style. Thought I was good to go.....not. I noticed when driving the truck home the temp still rose to above where I would like to see it be.... I also noticed the fan clutch not engaging either... I did however notice that approx 20-25 seconds after I turn on the A/C that the fan kicks in. Can someone please tell me A: at what temp should the fan start spinning without air condition on and B: what are normal operating temperatures for this truck on a 80-90 degree day. I will attempt to attach some pictures. Thanks.

It's my opinion that the 3116, 3126, and C7 were absolute abortions by cat. They run hot, every single one of them I've driven has had me swearing I was on the cusp of overheating.

Depends on what year but the temp gauge shows to be wrong to me. The cat ecm is reading the coolant temp from the cat sensor. And it drives the temp gauge I think. If it sees hotter than normal temps then it would have a CEL on and leave a above normal code as well as it controls the fan.You have also a oem red light temp in it from the truck maker so you have three things there that tells you its not above normal. To check it out when working it use a temp gun and check the temp at the thermostat housing. The ecm temp sensor does go bad some times but not very often.

Hopefully problem solved. Pigtail on wiring harness for fan clutch falve was shot. If it moved around, the fan would work. Just replaced that. Also tech found that guage sensor was reading incorrect. Ecm sensor works fine now and kicks the fan on when kt should... right arou d 207 and shuts off at 180. Hopefully the guage will read correctly after the new sensor is in. That and 7 gallons of new coolant.
