wheelbase

how do they measure the wheelbase of a truck? I know its from the center of the wheel on the front axle, but at what point on the rear? I thought it was the middle of the two axles, but im not sure. Thanks!

The wheel base is measured from the center of the front (steer axle) to the center of the rear drive axle.

I would have to disagree.I'm in Canada where if you wanna be legal the max wheelbase is 244".Thats measured from the center of steer axle to center of rear turning group which would be the center of the rear tandems.

I know that Ohio has us measure they way I stated for permits...many other states do also. Never been to Canada since they don't like my truck (271" wb and a 53' trailer).

The "Spec" WB is from the center of the front, (group with tandem steer) to the center of the rear axle or group of axles, center of tandem, center axle on tridem. The states want the dimensions of all axle groups for permit requirments. Jus' tryin' to help.

That might be 218". From the C/L of the steer to the C/L of the front driver.
Add 26", (1/2 of the normal tandem spread, 60" in Canada) & you have a 244" W.B.

52" seems to be the accepted standard in the states, 54 is extremely rare, & 60" is used extensively above the 49'th & in the states for heavy haul.
