Ok im kinda new to the whole diesel thing but ive noticed all there turbocharged riceburning toy cars running around with loud blow off valves. why is that a diesel runs a wastegate and not a BOV? is there anyway to make your wastegate louder or change to a BOV? in my opinon a loud BOV sound more agressive then a wastegate. whats the deal?

Fill out your signiture(go to user CP in the top menu then go to the left collum and you should see signiture) so we know what you have. Your truck may not even have a wastegate...

Well I don't have much experience with blow off valves, In fact I've only dealt with them on a subaru. Anyways, my impression was that I blow of valve releases boost/pressure from the system, in the case of the subaru to prevent it from damaging the intercooler. The waste gate is intended to stop making more boost, and keep the turbo in its effective range. I do agree that a blow off valve sounds sick though.
It seemed like every time you would shift under load on the subaru that the blow off valve would pop. I'm not sure if there is a pressure spike or what that causes this, but something must. I'm thinking the turbo is still creating pressure but the engine isn't taking in as much air, because the clutch is in and the RPMs have dropped. just a thought, but I don't really know, sorry I couldn't answer your question any better.

The BOV is their to relieve pressure on the intake side. Its their to protect the thrust bearing on your turbo. As for running one on a diesel, well you would have to have a switchable vacuum source. Without that it will not work.

And remember, the biggest reason all gas cars have them is,that when you let off the throttle the throttle body closes and if you didn't have somewhere for the air to go,it would just blow the hoses off,but since most diesels don't have a throttlebody ,most don't have a need for a blowoff!!! I did say MOST and not ALL!!!!!

Thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to know. This isn't my thread but I was interested. That makes sense, and I feel a little dumb for not having thought of that one myself, of course the throttle body. Anyways cool thanks,

also think about the rpm differance red line in a gas car is anywear from 6000 to 10000 on a diesel its 2500 to3500 little bit of a differance dont ya think

RPM has nothing to do with boost. the wastgate relieves pressure at a certain psi not a set rpm. you can build 30lbs of boost at 1500rpm or 20lbs at 2700. so redline has nothing to do with releasing boost pressures. it relieves it when it reaches a certain point then the throttle is let off
