: Bully Dog or Banks?

06-11-2006, 08:32 PM
I have an 04 Cummins and i cant decide between the Bully Dog triple power pup or the Banks ottomind 6 PDA module. I know the Banks gives u around 150HP and 260ftlbs and allows u to monitor, change, and control everything. The Bully Dog unit gives u up to 230HP and 450ftlbs but im not sure what all u can monitor and change. I want kick *** smack down HP and torque but i also dont want to break anything or upgrade the whole drive train alothough i do plan on an upgraded torque converter. Anyone have any suggestions?

Go with Bully Dog. You can get there monitor. I monitors gvery thing just like banks. The big plus is you can upgrade it over the internet. Plus you will never have to buy another one again if you buy a newer truck. Just up date it and that is free. Dont forget there crazy lary program. BIG POWER.:woot:

I forgot to mention you can change your power level on the fly just like banks.

06-11-2006, 09:22 PM
ok, thats helps, i didnt know about the internet upgrade, thats a nice feature. How many setting does it have? does it have like an economy setting or anything for good gas milleage cruising? How much power does the crazy larry program give u, and is an extra 450ftlbs gunu detroy my rear or tranny end even with a upgraded torque converter?

06-11-2006, 09:27 PM
why don't you also take a look at TST

06-11-2006, 09:32 PM
what kinda numbers is TST puttin out? also what kinda torque converter would u recomend for that kinda power?

06-11-2006, 09:40 PM
Bully Dog's crazy larry only works on 04.5 and newer trucks.the power pup will give more hp on an 03/04. it's 130hp and 250tq. the t dog is 113hp and 180tq.

06-11-2006, 09:49 PM
ok. so which would be best for an 04? and ur truck sounds bad as hell! do u have any pictures of it? id love to see what that monster looks like!

06-11-2006, 09:51 PM

on level 5 about 190hp at 1700 RPM and 530 ft lbs at 2900 RPM thats what there site says they have seen it do, as far a tq converters i'm not sure i have a 6 spd.

06-11-2006, 10:11 PM
For any thing over 100 horse your going to Have to up grade your TQ converter and may want to think about doing the same to the trans. Bully dog has a seting for more power an milege. All of these power adders can do damage to your trans if your on the top settings and have a heavy right foot. BD will defuel if it detects trans slip just like banks or if egt gets too high. The best thing it they dont mess with the rail pressure like banks. Increseing rail pressure will cause damage over time. You want timeing and duration.

Ok, so it sounds like Bully Dog is the way to go. I guess Banks is just more popular, i just dont wana end up breakin stuff cuz its a daily driver and i cant afford to bust a $6K tranny lol! ive got a buddy with an 03 duramax that runs mid 13's at the track that im trying to beat, but his allison tranny is slippin in 3rd gear down the track and he has bully dog. If anybody has any other helpfull advice send it my way!

06-11-2006, 11:18 PM
Yeah all power adders will damage the trans. But the best bang for the buck is bully dog with the outlook monitor. You can only prevent damage by not useing the top level and drag raceing with out building the trans. I dont have the money for a new trans either. I have friends with the BD, banks, and edge. Go with the Bully Dog tripple dog. By the way is your truck the 04.5 600 series?

06-11-2006, 11:29 PM
are the bully dog injectors good?

06-11-2006, 11:36 PM
From what I hear they are. They had a thing on Spike tv on Trucks where they used the Tripple Dog, there injectors, propane and nitrous and hit 880 HP and flat lined the tourque on that dyno at 1200 ftlb as soon as they got on the throttle.

all i needed to know i think i'm gonna order some 120horse ones

I have that episode recorded. It was AWSOME!!!

06-11-2006, 11:43 PM
vote the bully dog over banks. banks puts out great products but for the price the hp and torque numbers dont add up bully dog offers great products. i have herd the tst is good as well i have the crazy larry on my 05 but i am thinking of the tst

06-11-2006, 11:46 PM
Tst is a great product. But with the bully dog you can stack for more power.

That is true you can stack them but i'm not looking for THAT much power so i went with the TST, it pushes out some good power.

yea i havent even stacked mine yet and runnin on level 5 on my juice/attitude combo i lost a tranny. i had to upgrade torque converter and valve body- ask BigDodge about those upgrades thats where i got mine and i made a lil 05 mustang GT choke on diesel smoke last night while all his mustang buddys laughed at him..now they know better than to pick on a oil burner

Running the Bully Dog tried all levels excep for CRAZY LARRY, I was waiting to get my pilots licence before I went that high. Bully Dog is awsome and a high performance transmission makes it that much better, more positive shifting and no worries when you really put your foot into it, just let the g-foce set you back in your seat and enjoy the ride.:woot:

The MP-8 is in cab adjustable and is rated at just over 100+ additional rwhp. It is pretty universal. You can run it alone for the extra 100 horses or you can stack it with the BDDL ot the TST. We have the BDDL and MP-8 stack on our 03 Dodge. It has been a problem free awesome running combo.

07-11-2006, 03:59 AM
what is the MP-8? and I assume stacking means to use the MP-8 and the bully dog at the same time!? does it give you double the power?

07-11-2006, 02:07 PM
The MP-8 is a pressure box that stacks with any box out there, It is good for power gains about 100+ hp, great little box for stacking. And yes stacking means using them at the same time Bully Dog stacks well and so does the MP-8 so you got a perfect match.

07-11-2006, 08:39 PM
i have the TST stacked with a TS ramifier, perfect combo its BADDD!!!

The power numbers for the Bully Dog Power Pup (42566) for that application are 130/250. The Crazy Larry upgrade is only available on the Triple Dog
(40500) now. There are some of the old version part number 42568 (w/crazy larry) still out there but remember that if any thing happens you can only get the 130hp program reinstalled. If your truck is a 2004 325 series Cummins you can use either the 42568 or the 40500 for the Crazy Larry 230/430 program. You will need the trans upgrade if you intend to run that high horsepower program.

For a daily driver w/o trans modification go with the Bully dog or Quad Race box.

For all out performance upgraded turbo, trans and injectors ...............go TST!

are the bully dog injectors good?

I have a friend that got a set of bully dog injectors and had problems. He took them out and pop tested them and only three were good. They sent him more but two were bad. In the end he got a different brand. I wouldn't recommend bully dogs to anyone. I personally think that both bully dog and banks are both over priced for what you get. JMHO

i test drove a 2005 Dodge 3500 SRW QC 4x4 SLT SB Today with bigger tires and a banks six gun, exhaust and airraid and the as soon as i got in it and was going down the road i went straight to level 6 and i wasnt really inpressed with the power the banks added. i went to stock and then to level 6 and i did blow out a little smoke and i had a little more power but it didnt have that much more than stock as far as i could tell??? i did like the truck though, it was really clean, and had 23k on it and the dealer was asking like 32k for it, it had everything but leather and power seats and it was silver
