I am thinking about adding an exhaust brake onto my 5.9 engine. I have done a lot of research and found that the Smartbrake was the best. Before I spend any time and money, I want to know if anyone else is using the Smartbrake and what do they think of it. I spoke to several Caterpillar dealers who are also Smartbrake dealers and they said that the Smartbrake was by far the best and most reliable exhaust brake. I don't know if I can believe them since they also sell the Smartbrake. Please let me know ASAP.

I actually haven't heard of that brand, Jake Brake is great, and so is the Pac Brake, and yeah you never know they could be saying that like you said just because they're a dealer of the brakes.

The only advice I can offer is the one brake that has been slowing me down (In a good way) for close to 4 years now. It's a BD Remote 4" and the ONLY service I needed to do was when it got down to -16* AMBIENT temps two winters ago the vaccuum servo/solonoid had some water in it just from condensation and it froze. It froze when coming down a hill and needles to say I blacked out the highway whenI tried to get out of traffic's way. A quick dissassemble and some liberal use of WD-40 cured that right up. The other thing I love is it's simplicity. You can wire it stand alone , or in conjunction with your ECM OR on any switch you want. It's great for warm ups when it's cold out great for braking and great for getting soot out of your exhaust and behind you. :sly:

I have ran both Pac Brake and US Gear D'cellarator. Remote brakes are the way to go..
