Ok... i have one of my ATV Sponsors asking me about this stuff.... He is coming from a V10 Ford and just bought a 06 Dodge and said that it is the biggest WHIMP he has driving... he really isnt too fond of dodge either but he got a hell of a deal on it so he said he had to buy it...

He was looking at the SMARTY Downloader but wants the truck to be quiet and just wants it to keep up with his V10 and wants better fuel milage as well.... Soooo ... i told him that the CAT was good up to 500hp (thats right, RIGHT?) and that his best bet to keep it quiet is to just do a Cat Back exhaust system or put an aftermarket straight through muffler on it.... He said he doesnt want to have to YELL when talking in the cab like you do with my truck... :woot: ... HU, WHAT, DID'NT HEAR YOU..... LOL

But with the stock system and a Smarty DL is he gonna be alright with the EGTs ???... i told him to get a Gauge and/or gauges.... I also told him that the stock Air Box was good enough for the STOCK set up truck and the Smarty with the Stock truck will be fine too... I believe...

He also pulls a 34' TOUNGE Hitch trailer (:poke: ) that is as heavy as my 5th wheel if not heavier ....

So im just wanting to ask THE DIESEL GARAGE if i sent the right info to a VERY Top end Suspension builder for atv's......

Or what you might add Different...???

I have an 04.5 CTD ram with a stock exhaust. I just recently got rid of the stock airbox. I had the FRAM Airaid Jr. intake system with the highflow drop in filter, with the intake muff. removal. It made a difference, but just a few weeks ago I got rid of my stock airbox and purchased a K&N cone. It really made a difference losing the box. I had to fab up my own holder, and I tapped into the end of the filter for my air temp sens. It works well and made a difference in my throttle response.

Which way ya going with that.... Cause IMVeryHO the 06 stock cummins was the strongest truck i had driven next to the stock LBZ.... And the guy is saying that his V10 is just soooo much stronger and better fuel milage and this and that... he said it was the biggest dissapointment he could have imagined... BUT, i dont think he has tried to do anything with it yet.... so i think he just hasnt gotten used to a DIESELs Power... it is a whole different PowerBand than a Gas Engine....

So just back to the original question.... The 98% Totally stock 06 Dodge will handle the SMARTY or any Downloader to any power level that WONT Destroy the tranny..???? (bout the 100hp setting) Right..???

:thanks:

The tranny will hold up for awhile but if he plans on running any perf setting he is going to have to be prepared to someday upgrade the tranny. These trannys cant handle very much over stock. IMO I would go with something different like a t-dog bc he he ever wanted to get crazy he could go and get the crazy larry program on it or i think PPE makes some good downloaders for the CR's..an they have some hot running programs..so in all the tranny will hold up for awhile but hauling a trailer w/ the Smarty in an higher setting going to put a lot of extra strain on it

It sounds to me like he would be a perfect candidate for a Juice/Attitude. It has enough fuel to make it fun but it has all of the safety and backdown features built in so he wouldn't have to worry about EGT so much as the Juice would back the fuel out if he ever got close to the user determined limit. It will also watch tanny slippage and back fuel out so it won't grenade the tranny. Bottom line is it's totally user friendly and if setup properly it won't break things and it's on the fly adjustable.

A stock CR Cummins will beat the pants off of a V-10 even if the V-10 was supercharged for crying out loud. Don't even get me started on the mileage.:pointlaugh

It sounds to me like the guy wants to have his cake and eat it too. Now i'm now mechanic, but i'm thinking if the guy wants a high performance high horsepower vehicle, somethings gotta give and it's going to be the gas mileage.
If he wants "Holy Sh1t power", then intake, exhaust, programmer, etc... should end his dissapointment.

Nope he is wanting something to Get good Fuel Milage Yet Keep up with his V10... Both of which the Cummins CAN Do.... Im not sure if he was joking or not on the V10 stomping on his Cummins or not but he was asking and i was throwing ideas at him... I think the Edge would be a good way for him to go too... but he was Really looking at the SMARTY and some Banks Stuff but he doesnt want to pay for THE BANKS NAME....

He does not want OH ***** power just wants something to pull his trailer with and keep it as close to stock Sound as possible...

He needs to go with the Edge Juice, for now until he begins to understand the ins and outs of a Diesel Engine. It is his safeist way to go for now. Don't waste time or money on Banks. Talk him into signing up here and begining to learn the World of Diesel. Heck, my 7.3 ran the pants off the V-10 when I did some comparitive testing, the Cummins will run the pants off both of them, thats just one of the reasons that I am moving over to the world of Cummins!
