I'm thinking in theory here but I have an 03 and the turbo sits alot lower due to an approximately 90degree bend in the exhaust manifold just before the turbo inlet which i believe is to alow for larger-free'er flowing exhaust. Is this something that could be fabricated or posibbly it's already being manufactured for my 91 1/2. I'm just toying with the idea of trying to eliminate the two tight 90's out of the turbo and have more of a mild offset to lower egt's even more. I'll try to get some pics on here to show anyone who doesn't have a third-gen

Sounds interesting. From the little I have been around a 3rd gen. I wonder if the turbo sticks out to far. As low as it mounts I think there might be frame interference.

I'm gonna do some measuring tonight when the wife gets home(the 03 is her daily driver). Thats when I'll know more. It just occured to me today thinking about the exhaust on these 1st gen's and how tight that down-pipe 90's almost back to back. Oh well any suggestions are much welcome.:Thumbup:

The other thing I didn't think about earlyer is the 24 valve engines use a different bolt pattern. So the 3rd gen might not fit as far as bolting on wise.

But get to measuring. :D

looks like its gonna take alot of fab work or a different exhaust manifold cause you were right on on the frame clearance issue. otherwise it would have too much manifold to be worth fooling with to go around. Guess the stock setup will have to work.:damnit

I heard on another site that a manifold off of a freightshaker fl60 might work. It mounts the turbo about in the same fashion. But a little higher than the one you looked at.

What is wrong with your H1C that you want to upgrade to an 03' turbo or am I missing what you are wanting to accomplish here?

you are indeed, the down pipe stinks on these trucks and i am looking into a way to remount the turbo lower to relieve the down pipe of the tight 90's to get below the firewall. Just toying with the thought of more improvements to the old beast.:sly:

I have an 05 i recently installed a 5" turbo back system on it and love it, i noticed a large drop in egt's

i did just see one on a p-pumped 5.9l cummins powered onan generator that turned straight up in the center. could these manifolds be turned upside down? If so then this manifold, given the second gen's manifolds would fit my 91 1/2, would probably fit the bill to accomplish the move.
