Almost done with my 1988 F-250 that I swapped a 12v cummins into.

Just about ready to start my 2nd project I have the chance to pick up a 1955 chevy apache dually chassis cab. It was owned by a fire department.

I want to put a CAT diesel in it ( inline 6 so no 3208)

What is a smaller inline 6 that I can put in that is turbo & mechanical. 3406,3112 3126 I have heard alot about these...but not to sure which are mechanical.

3406 would be way to big for a pickup 3116 or 3126 would be your best bet if your going with an inline 6

is the 3116 & 3126 intercooled?

either the 3116 or the 3126 older models would be perfect. Easy fuel setting adjustments and pretty tough engines.

I don't recall a intercooled version (air to water) but a big air to air would be all you would need, I imagine.

I just looked at a marine cooler that might work but it would be big $ new.

Unfortunately the smaller Cat 6 cylinders are lousy engines from the start to the present. I would not do it.

There was a 3176 mechanical engine, although it is more of a medium duty application not a light duty. These engines had a lot of intermediate plate failures so there not might be any good ones around cheap. Good luck.

If it is a GMC, how about a Detroit 2 stroke? A turbo'ed 6/71 would probably go pretty well in something like that with an Allison.

i would go for a screamin detroit 2stroke especially as its going into a gm

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 3176 was all HEUI, the mechanical version was the 3306? or something like that.
