Hi all,

I have a 27' class C motorhome built on a 87 E 350 with a 460 motor in it. I also own a VW Golf TDI that I use to drive to work and I absolutly love the 50 MPG it gets. I am not a mecanic but I have done plenty of it and I have learned to try and keep it simple. I have taken a look in the local adds and I have seen a few diesel vans from the early 90's for sale. Now, I should get to the point...

Is there a diesel bolt on conversion out there for me?

I would try to buy a complete donor vehicule because I was always missing that little something from the donor vehicule in my previous swap.

Also, is it possible for me to find a 4 speed automatic that will match my year?

Thanks
Daniel

There's a couple possibilities. You can get a 6.9/7.3 IDI, a 7.3 IDI with a turbo, or an early powerstroke. The newer you get the more likely it is to be a 4 speed auto. Try to get a van for a donor so everything is 10 times easier. Thought, planning, & homework.

2 Qs

By the strangest of coincidences I just came across a guy I used to work with today. We used to work for a cable company and we drove the company trucks. He told me that the 7.3 diesel he drove for a week did not get better MPG than the 5.8 gasser he was usualy driving.
1- Would that be accurate?

2- Can I expect a bolt on conversion with no mods and if so what are the donor years compatible?

Thanks
Daniel
