: Break in period
fireman111 10-24-2007, 10:04 PM Hey everyone, new to the forum. I have a couple questions. I just purchased my 6.7 last week... Do I need to "break it in" before I go putting a programmer and a suspension lift on it? Iv been told yes, and no. Just wondering what yall think..
Thanks
-Jon
sixpack1 10-24-2007, 11:27 PM Is it a new truck? If so you may void your warrenty by modifying the truck. (Been there done that). If the programer allows you to return to stock then that part wouldn't be a problem. But lowering your truck prior to taking it in for warrenty work is another story. BTW I work for Deland Fire/Rescue in Volusia County. C-U, Sixpack
John DiMartino 10-25-2007, 12:43 AM I'd get a few miles on it b4 i did a programmer.Your warranty will be gone once you do it,so make sure all is ok b4 you program it.

I was told by my dealer that if I lift it and/or chip/programmer it, I wouldnt void the warranty. Theres a law/statute written that says it cant be voided just because it has after market stuff on it. Deland..... thats on the other coast? Get any good fires over there brother?
cajuncummins 10-25-2007, 01:24 AM well, it can;t be voided by the fact, but i believe they getcha if something breaks and can be linked to the power-adder, but at the same time i've heard you can fight it because it's not possible to totally conclude that it's the chip/whatever's fault, but if your dealer says it's ok break in for like 7500 miles, thats just me, but probably not what everybody else says, then do a chip, but make sure it breathes well before you do it, exhaust and intake, good luck man
fireman111 10-25-2007, 01:30 AM I appreciate it. I think Ill wait to put the bullydog in. how about the suspension lift? should I wait for that? I just got the MBRP exaust installed.
cajuncummins 10-25-2007, 03:09 AM i don't really know about the lift, how high are you going? i can't see why not, show us some pics if ya don;t mind
John DiMartino 10-25-2007, 11:22 AM I'd lift it,but leave the engine stock for now. Even though your dealer is telling you they wont void your warranty, Chrysler will,I'm not sure if they still use the STAR program, but with a Cummins truck, every step in diagnosis and repair went thru STAR,and the tech was given instructions on how to find out if you modded the engine, and they were to void the engine warranty if it had the break off screw removed from the pump,a programmer or box/wire tap(vp44 trucks).I've seen them send reps to check that the dealer is checking the trucks, and they will charge back the dealer for the bill if they "miss" the trace of a programmer or box. Then the dealer will go after you for the repair. On my buddies truck the bill was 14,500 on an 03 HO that dropped a valve seat and ate the engine,it took 2 weeks for Chrysler to approve it for warranty. They tried to void his warranty on a stock 3500 work truck because he put an exhaust brake on it. Only a month later the new engine almost fried when a freeze plug fell out of the engine on the highway.
fireman111 10-25-2007, 12:33 PM Its a 8 1/2 lift. 6inch in the back, 6inch in the front plus 2 1/2 leveling kit.
Ill just wait 'till i get alot of miles on the truck before i program it.
Eazydeezy 10-25-2007, 02:09 PM I think I have noted this in 10 or so different topics now. But I stuffed the edge juice chip in mine with a 1000 on the odometer and it made it 10 times better to drive. On that note I burnt down a transmission (by screwing around) and took it to the dealer WITH the chip in it and got myself a new transmission all COVERED by warranty.
12vbowtie2 10-25-2007, 05:21 PM The new trucks are normally diagnosed with a star scan, that sends and receives information from cummins, they can tell if any modifications are on truck, even if dealer says they don't see them. Ie, taken off before brought in. And if they determine that it is the mod that caused damage it will be on you.

aschuerg 11-14-2007, 11:01 AM as far as the chip warranty it's not dodge that voids it will be cummings and then dodge.
