I keep thinking of engine conversions and i had my mind set on a 5.9 Cummins but i dont really have the money for it now, but the a possible answer is sitting in my garage, i have 2 3208 Caterpillar 3028NA engine one with a manual 5 speed and the other has an allison. Would a CAT 3208 fit in my 1985 F250, i know i might need to do some firewall mods, custom motor mounts and trans mount, clutch linkage. But really what else could there be?

I know it has been done in the pre- 80's trucks. Not as much room, but a body lift might be enough for yours. The blocks really aren't that much bigger than the 6.9/7.3 IDI engines. Since a 5.9 Cummins fits, I think length shouldn't be much of an issue.
Won't gain much in power, but it would be a cool swap.
Might want to do a straight axle (Dana 60) swap in place of the POS IFS. ;) Mine was crap. '82 F250 was OK, but not the '86.

The other thing, those suckers are really heavy! Last one I saw on ebay had some serious frame work done. The NA would fit better, but they arent too powerful.

I read in an old magazine about a 3208 in a F250 or F350 4wd truck; I think they mentioned having to raise the cab up to accomodate the engine. I bought that issue at a antique mall just for that article; it looked like they did alot of mods, but when it was finished the engine bay was a real atention getter (besides being full)
