Nope. The wife wouldn't let me anyways. It's her turn for a vehicle and hers is newer. She might go for me getting a new one if it was a Duramax.:thinking

Don't think I will be getting the 6.7...I've been eyeing the M2 106 SportChassis Freightliner for a couple years.

Isn't your truck made in Mexico, too?

Not that I disagree with you. I won't buy one, either. Only those willing to take a lot of risk buy a first year anything (remember all the 6L problems when it first arrived). Seeing that it's the first diesel of this type made by Ford in a foreign country and it's the 1st year, NO WAY. Besides, I'm 99% satisfied with what I have.

Hey Duke, I wanna join WALNUT!!!! As far as the 6.7 goes, I'm never buying the first year of any truck again...lesson learned.

No way--my 7.3 is PAID FOR, does everything I need it to do (and forsee doing in the future w/the truck), and runs like a champ--why would I want a new truck? If anything, I'd pull the 7.3 and put in a CR 5.9 before buying a 6.7 PSD.

You know, it won't be the first year, probably not the second or third, but eventually I'll need another truck to replace the one I have now, and it will certainly be a Ford. I'm not worried about where Ford casts the engine, or even assembles it for that matter. Throughout the mid 70s and early 80s, the best Ford blocks had Hecho En Mexico cast in them not Ws to designate Windsor Canada or CFs for Cleveland Foundary. Mexican 302s were a staple of the high performance small block Ford market for anyone who couldn't get a boss block.

I think Ford has learned some hard lessons, and everything points to the new engine being built with that in mind. Basically they've taken the best ideas from the past 15 years, and added a few new ones that aren't that radical to maybe make this engine even better.

You are a tool! You drive a 99 dodge...lol. No one is trying to be like cummins. That's why they are the only obnoxious sounding six put in a truck. You can keep that outdated crap.

12.7 I guess is pretty good for all those mods you have..... a 6.4 will do that for a couple of grand!!

smokin24valve

Plus the 40+ grand to have a 6.4 so you can mod it. I do not have my truck because its a dodge. I have it because of the cummins. I would gladly drive a fummins with pride.

I have nothing against ford. Just their diesels. I have not been completely impressed with the 6.0 or the 6.4. The best diesel they used was the 7.3 and I can't understand why they ever got away from it. I love the new mustang and would buy a new taurus and maybe the 6.7 will redeem fords diesel line or maybe it will be a flop like the last 2 designs. But I still wouldn't buy it in the 1st year of production or have the coin to buy one.

Duke

I voted no b/c it's too risky to buy 1st year of a new diesel. Couple years into production may change things.

7.3 was the best why? My 6.4 will run circles around my 02 7.3 in power and mileage. :rantoff

I don't see the 6.4 as being a flop either.

I don't think it was a "flop", but with Ford abandoning it so quickly, I believe it leaves their perspective owners with a somewhat devalued asset.

thats a better way to say it thank you. i just feel the 7.3 was a very dependable motor at least compared to the 6.0.

and if the 6.4 is so great why change designs so quickly. and its a no brainer that your 6.4 has more power than the 7.3. why would someone market a new engine with less power.

Its a whole new design because its a new manufacturer, International gone and now Ford is building inhouse.... Lots of reading on it, may be worth trying before talking :madpoke

Does that not give some who would buy one of these trucks cause for concern?

Ford can write up all the pie in the sky crap they want about it, but it doesn't mean anything until it hits the street for a few million end user miles and proves it's a worthy product. And I'd say that about any engine, truck, toaster or lawn mower, whatever. Not picking on Ford, but they're the ones with everything to lose if the scorpion did happen to unfortunately flop.

I just don't have the downtime to screw around with 1-2 year teething problems. For you guys that can, good for you. If I have to be on the jobsite to meet a concrete truck at 6:30 AM, I don't want a CE light coming on because the engine hasn't been thoroughly tested. Gotta go with designs that are proven.

Hope Ford gets it right.

I would have to wait at least a year before I bought one, but than again my truck is almost paid for and I have so much $$ and time invested in it that it would be hard to see it go. Have to see where I am when it comes time for a new truck.

I could not afford one anyway. I used to have work planned out for 2 months now it is day to day . If things were booming again I still would probably wait and find a gently used one. I did buy 2 truck last year a F150 Supercrew Lariat , hell of a nice truck , and a 02' F250 7.3 utility , both were low mileage , I got both for 28K . The utility was a geogia power truck , it was very clean. The 150 belonged to a ford worker in Louisville that took the buy out to go back to school.

drives me nuts when people who are uninformed respond to things.
Ford abandoned the 6.4 because of their disputes with the 6.0 and navistar, ford dropped the connection with navistar for light duty trucks to build their own in house. the 7.3 was dropped because with emission regulations they couldnt meet them so they made the 6.0 which imo was released to soon and wasnt properly tested before being released to the public which caused all the grief between the 2 companies and fords customers, the 6.4 had some problems with the 2008 job 1 trucks with the flame thrower out the exhaust which was fixed with a reflash, they had alot of rad problems with too much pressure which was a simple fix, the job 2 trucks and higher more or less just have your build on friday or monday woes like every other manufacturer has and pops out a lemon here and there. The 6.4 is a great engine and has way less problems then the 6.7 Cummins which is still teething with their emission problems (simple fix is to dump the emission crap if you want to play with warranty) The 6.4 with 2 grand can pump out 500 plus hp and the tranny/drive train will handle it with no problems, the dodge and chev need redone beefed up trannys. I personally think Ford absolutely has to hit a home run with the new 6.7 to recover from the 6.0 mess. With all the testing they have done i think ford has a hit on their hands but back to the question. I would not buy a first year truck/engine of any make - let it go a year before i'd buy, besides i love my 6.4 and wont need a truck for a few years at least unless this one gets stolen and written off like my 6.0 did! :damnit

I dont really want anything to do with another new diesel, they are sum beach to work on. I can turn a wrench, but all the electronic stuff is more than I want to deal with. Although just a tuner and some delete pipes getting ya over 500hp sounds nice. But my 06 is almost paid for, and Id loose my azz big time if I had to sell/trade it in for next to nothing.

Well I am not going to say never but unless Ford has plans on bringing the manual back at least as a special order the chances are slim to done that I would probably own another. You see I'm not blindly loyal to any of the big three. I've had the pleasure of being able to own each thru the years, however I go with the one who is putting out the truck that best fits the needs for me. Knock on wood none of them ever left me stranded or spending time at the dealers shop. The manual is the deal breaker for me.

I looked at them locally here, I like them but the price is way to high. Everyone my dealer has is over 60K They have a 2011 F-350 SRW 66K on the windshield even with the 5k rebate from Ford etc don't bring it down for me to justify that price. I will stick with my 09 Dodge CTD.

I will likely give them till summer to prove them, then take another look at all 3 brands. I dont have to have one for another year or 2, so there's no rush at this point. More of a want then a need, and at 60k, i dont want one that bad. Ford bring's back the manual tranny and a few more color option's, sign me up for a 12'..

I`d love to own one. I didn`t say I`d love to buy one. My 06 diesel is getting a lot of miles on it but I`d have a hard time paying $50,000 for a new work truck. It`s kind of sad to me that I`ve driven diesel work trucks since 1984 ( 6.9 ) & now have to think about a gas engine because of the price of a new diesel.

It does suck. I think once my 3500HD is paid off (6 more months), I'll just get a 2nd used 3500HD for ~$20K. I'd rather have 2 of them than one new truck. My 3500HD has been fantastic. I'm at the point where these trucks have more capability than I'd ever need. I just don't need more than 360/650 and an Ally 6 speed. That's more than I ever dreamed I'd need. Crap my 60,000 GCWR dumptruck is only 270HP. lol
