: lowering my 03 2wd dually?

I was wondering what you guys thought about ways to lower the rear end of my 03 2wd dually. The front is already lowered 4 inches and I want the rear to sit a little lower then it already does. I do not haul a lot, but do haul a few rock crawlers in the winter as well as a few boats in the summer. Other then that, not much towing at all.

What are some ways to go about doing this? shackles? bags? let me know what you have in mind!

Here is how it sits right now (the wheels are now gloss black):

Thanks for the help! I am trying to keep "cheap" in mind as well.

You should put the black rockstars on there.

They have been painted gloss black...just haven't taken new pics of the truck lately...have been gloss black since the day after I bought the truck. :happymugs

That truck looks awesome, I wouldn't change a thing with it.

Go to a trianguladed four link rear suspension with air bags instead of springs. That way you can adjust your ride height.

If it's the same as on a 2wd then I dont think you can do much with shackles if anything, and a flip kit would drop it way too far I think. One way to lower it, if this hasn't been done already, is to take the two little blocks and the load leaf out. This would drop it about an inch and a half at least I think. I have looked for ways to lower my 2wd 2500 and can hardly find a way either, but maybe one day I'll get a little more extreme and do it a nice way. Awesome looking truck by the way!

How is it lowered now?

I used drop shackles on mine and removed one of the springs from the rear. Rides much better unloaded now. I had to get my overload flattened out a bit though because I was almost sitting on the pads. How did you lower the front?

Only pic I can find.

I'd like to do a 4-link with bags and drop the entire truck another 3-4 inches.

This thread is making me wanna drop a diesel... something different. But the reason all these diesels are lifted is cuz they're real trucks and being kept as trucks.

A lowered tow rig is not hurting anything really if its done right. 2wd drives can tow more, and lowering it can improve fuel mileage.

I think I am going to leave the suspension alone for now after thinking about it a while. If I do anything at all, it will be done the right way...bags and 4 link...but that would be a long time from now!

Here are some more recent pictures of my truck:

Looks perfect.

Get some 22.5 wheels, machine them down to 22s, and run 22 inch low profile tires.

Would be nassssty.

You can get junkyard 22.5s for 50-100 a wheel.

There is a guy down in Kings Mtn, that can take the nastiest aluminum big rig wheel, and put it in his machine, and you can comb you hair in them, for $40.

Where is this at? I would love to have some 22s or 24s shaved but can never find any in my price range....

Adapters are another $800 or so unless you can find a better deal somewhere on them too

yeah...I had a dude that was going to trade me for a four wheeler but I sold the four wheeler for cash instead.....if I had the cash for big rig wheels and tires...along with adapters, the truck would be getting twins in dual CP3s before anything LOL

There is a big rig junkyard I deal with alot in Anderson SC and another one in Montvale, VA.

I usually paid 50-100 per 22.5.

I will try to find their numbers.

Also, how is the fuel mileage on that thing? I bet it could 20 mpg on the highway being slammed like that.

I traded my dad's 22.5s that he paid 6 grand for for a fourwheeler + $1700 a while ago... And now I find out I could have gotten them for a lot cheaper. Also would have needed some modifications for them to not ride like an old dodge...

It's not getting the best...It has a 4.10 so anything over 70 and the high RPMs is draining the fuel. I hate to do it, but I usually cruise at 60 on the high way and it gets great fuel mileage. I am actually in the process of calculating in off the current full tank in it right now so I will get you know when I am done.

Let me know their numbers. What do you do, buy them in a 22.5....take them to a shop and have them shaved down to a 22? I don't really know any place that could do that for me. Also, can they cut a design into it to make it look good instead of like an old truck wheel.

Any help is great! Thanks a lot man!

The polish machine makes them look like brand new. No diff than the bullet hole Alcoas the guys on here buy.

There are Peterbilt style wheels, Freightliner directionals, and then the classic bullet hole. Tell me which you prefer.

I think the classic bullet hole would look the best?

Just wondering, but what is your choice in style of wheel?

Bullet hole.

cool.....That would be awesome to get some shaved 22.5s for the truck man...I would for sure need 22s so I can run low profile tire to fit it under the truck.

that truck looks real nice man. I can't imagine that sittin any lower. Maybe sit the back down a bit but thats it.

You running limo tint all around on it? Looks like it

I would only lower the back about an inch or two if anything. The front would stay the same.

The sides are 5% all the way around, the front windshield has 40% on it....gives it the blacked out look.

Thanks man!

Did you have to c notch the frame in the rear? How many coils did you cut in the front?

NCcummins
01-12-2010, 05:23 AM
do we did not have to notch the frame..I cannot remember how many I cut out but I know it was too many because now I cannot align it lol. I am looking for some stock coils for the front to work with now.
