but i got a 97 cummins and theres alot of play in the steerin wheel i was thinkin its my gearbox out of round but i really hope not but theres roughly a 1/16 or a lil more play in the wheel before it turns in general but any ideas are appricated

There is a sector lash adjustment opposite the sector shaft/pitman arm nut. Loosen the locknut and gently take up the slack with the steering box centered ( high point ). If you can feel the high point it is to tight. I use just an extension with NO drive handle.
To tight will make it a ditchfinder, but then it may already be one.

alright ill try it and see what happens but the gear box is leakin so im trien to find where its at all

There is an adjusting screw on top of the gear. Back off the jam nut, use an allen key to tighten the screw. Do a little at a time then drive it until you get the desirable feel.
The solid steel brace works good, and the pillow block bearing takes alot of the stress off the sector shaft...
