What kind of disaster would this be with a slider?

How long is that bed?

The bed is 6ft IIRC, with a slider hitch you would be good to go with most fivers. I have mine converted to GN and don't have to much trouble, just have to be really careful backing

How hard and expensive is the gn conversion?

I think its a bolt on deal, I saw one at the truck store the other day. They show a GN horse trailer on the commercial.

Cheaper than buying a hitch for the truck, 2-300 bucks IIRC. Mine is welded onto the pin box and locks onto the pin as well, it is made to be bolted or welded on. As for how hard? Not very, getting the correct one is the hardest part since they come in varying lengths and capacities etc.

i converted my little(25ft) 5er to a GN, i hate 5er's having that big, goofey hitch in my bed is not for me, it was a simple bolt on, i did have to cut about 1 inch off the factory hitch(where you can move it up and down) to get the length i wanted, i use to pull the trailer with my 03, it was a short box, like billy said just be careful, i had 2 very small creases in my cab corners from backing in at yellowstone :{ but the dealer didn't see them when i traded it in:} just be careful, or if your worried and have a B&W hitch, they bake a ball that slides in your stock hitch hole and moves the thing back 6 inches or 8 inches

If you want a gooseneck hitch along with a 5er I would go with the B&W. They have an attachement that goes over the ball and hooks to the 5er. I have heard that a lot of guys really like them and then you don't have the rails in the bed.

Very true, I was going to get the B&W but backed out due to lack of $$$$ and did the GN conversion on the trailer instead Now I want to get the B&W hitch for the truck so I can use their relocater ball. Basically it moves the ball about 2" rearward, doesn't sound like much but every little bit helps.

How do they move the ball back 2"? It is an attachement or something. I haven't really looked into the B&W much, but when I get another ball put in I think I will go with this one. I have been a little leary about putting one in because I thought if we got a 5er I would have to spend more money. But now you can have the best of both worlds:)
