    Hello ynot. My name is Fred, im from Yoakum,Tx. I have a 94 frieghtliner with a 3406c, and was wondering if you could help me out on doing the conversion back to mechanical for me. If there is anything you can do to help me out, please let me know. it would be greatly appreciated.

    I was wondering if can use the 8785 injector in a 3406b serial# 5kj07196. Ar#. 9y6252. And if you could tell me what injectors are in my truck stock thank you

    I have read all your stuff on this site about Cats. I am doing an engine swap in my 78 Pete cabover. I'm going from a Big Cam to a 3406a 400 hp. The motor was rebuilt by Ziegler in 1995 and was parked after putting 20k miles on it in 1998. It was started one time about 8 years ago. I am going to start the swap the first week of Dec. Is there anything I should be checking before I start it (if it will) I'll make sure turbo spins free anything else?

    I come to you in need of advice I need to change my injectors in my 95 pete with a 3406c motor 3zj. It has a 346d jake brake. How does the jake brake come off the top end? does it just come off as one piece? What are the torque specs to reinstall the jake brake unit. (also does valve lash need to be readjusted) Also what is the torque spec for the new injector(I bought reman cats) Can you guide me to any instructions or can you please describe the process in this pm. please tell me how I can repay you for your help!!!     Hello Ynot, wish I would have found this b4 I rebuilt my b model! I have a 5ek, 30k on platuim overhaul at cat, has pp exhaust manifold, bully dog, runs in the low 5's mpg, looking for a better turbo and ecm tune. Yes, I know it is still tight, but, I also know with the right tune, it can do better. I run coast to coast(except commie calif), let me know what you think and where you are at. Thanks in advance.     Tony I have a 3406b cat im looking to rebuild for a 379 pete heavy haul lowboy truck. Looking for some to do the pump and recommend what pistons injectors cam turbo and so one. Is this something you would be willing to help with. Im located in chicago. Thanks Marc

    All stock parts... 23* @ 1000rpm; start screw at 1320RPM; remove stop screw.

    The tach drive shaft pushing the spring cup forward and in front of the spring case for the rear brng on the shaft. Only place it can go really...

    Reread Raf. Can't REMOVE screws on any Cat. No torq rise then. Read the Tech section.

    Bigal 3 turns now then three more if need... Sorry so late. Ken CUT ALL SIX CAUSE BLOCK IS WARPED. Spec remains .0045. Rest is as is but get 16.0 pistons in the kit not 16.4's. Get to all the late PM's later... TY

    Hi Tony, hope your getting well, I've got a kw t800 with c15, 800 marine cam, stage 2 ecm, 900hp turbo from kurt, 58's. Had a headgasket go 2 years ago, a cat trained mechanic that sells pdi, did my gasket but said protrusion was good and didn't have to be checked, only 20k headgasket goes again, now we have three sunk liners, blown between 5+6 again. going to counterbore the 3, should we do them all while we're doing them, I found one forum that you said to shim to .0045, is this still your advice. I think I am going to get a c15 gold kit plus a reman head, is this the best pacs to put in? I haul some 140k loads but don't push too hard so I don't think I'll put in the harder top ring, or should I? I really think my liners were low when we had this engine apart before so I'm really going to argue for a price break this time and I wouldn't do the rest of this engine but can't see putting in 3 old pacs and 3 new ones. any thing else to do while it's opened up? tks kenw007

    Full load Static fuel 4.70mm Full torq Static fuel 4.95mm
    Power 425hp AF rato -00.55mm
    bar hi idle 2239 rpm Full load 2000 rpm Dynamic fuel timing 11*btc
    we have fitted a OR6170 Turbo all the rest is standed.
    I have just blowing the turbo and replace it with OR6170, I clean every thing up,I pressure test the intercooler its OK and the AFR holds pressure the fuel pressure is 40-41psi at idle and 38psi full rev,the boost 18-19psi and is this OK? The timing is 2/3 of a hole advance it runs cleaner now (no smoke) and it not holding on the hills like it did, How many turns no the fuel and torque screw would you go be for it makes no difference to the power and what would the boost be? I know i can't get much more out of it with out changing parts.

    Tony, I have a 3406b that needs to be tampered with by someone like yourself, however, I am from down under, and no not from under a carpet or anything, but a backwards place known as Australia, there just doesnt seem to be any Cat mechanics that know their stuff here, just glorified parts replacement specialists, that being said, I havent come across the right person maybe. Now my question, do you perhaps know of any competent guy down here that knows Cats? and if not, when are you coming down here to visit?
