Dodge CNT 900

Any one ever seen or driven a Dodge semi with a diesel engine? They were about the same size as large semi's. They were built in the 60's and early 70's.
we have one with a NHC 250 cummins diesel.

I always wanted a Dodge Bighorn ever since I found out they made one. I'd like to have a couple more Dodges. There was a grain elevator in out area and he had alot of them but now he's got mostly macks and all the Dodge's are got. What a shame.

We've got a local lumber yard(down in Amish country) that has a fleet of Dodge stuff....either swing fender or Bighorns. Most aren't used anymore and just stored in a shed out back. I think they have 6-8 Bighorns in various states of dis-array and one that the long time mechanic keeps running for old time sakes, and occasional use.

I was told a couple months ago, buy the mechanic, that the whole lot of Big's could be bought for a cool $100K. Anyone??.........Bueller? Bueller?

What we got there is the largest group of antique Dodge big-rigs in the COUNTRY!

I didn't think there was that many left!

I'd love to buy em but we dont need em all, they would need dump bodies, and I dont have an extra 100 k layin around any where. Also not enough room for em all

As much as i hate $**t box dodges it would be a crime against history to let anything happen to those trucks! that no doubt has to be not only the largest but the most pristine examples of dodge heavy truck building.

That's history plane and simple! it should be treated as such.

I suppose they have just the 5 Bighorns, then a group of swingfenders.
Now, don't let the pics fool you, they are by no means pristine! The picture I posted is the frame on the silver swingfender. The frame is spread so bad it's split the lower part of rail and has the suspension bowed out bad(second pic).

The tan Bighorn is the one they keep roadworthy. The fellow in the pic is NOT me:pointlaugh , it's a truck club member who is from Alaska who came to town and was looking for Bighorn information because he has one he's restoring. We drove out to see the collection(I'd heard but never seen), and was welcomed with open arms. The mechanic was more than willing to spill his guts about anything we asked(he'd been there 37 yrs). We poked around for almost 2 hrs, before mechanic had to leave(he has to take all the amish workers home).

The orange/black Bighorn was purchased new for Timken bearing company and the mechanic was working at dealership when it was delivered new. He then was involved in getting it purchased when Timken sold it to a farmer and then to lumber company. It's about as original as you can get, though pretty rough for only 100k miles on it. The story went.....Timken employees had a hard time driving it since the cab is a bit small and the drivers were tall, so it was sold off pretty quick. A farmer used it for a number of years til the lumber yard got a hold of it.

Most all of their Bighorns are not too virgin in the sheetmetal category. Winters around here beat them up pretty bad and have had alot of surgery to keep them looking good. Definitely a real history lesson sitting in that shed. They do have one other one that's being restored nut/bolt right now, down to every factory nut/bolt in the frame. Been 10 yrs and still working on it. The mechanice is hoping to get it done before he retires cause no one else knows how it goes back together

I passed on buying a swing out fender Dodge tractor about 3 years ago; the engine access was nice and this was a farmtruck with a little over 100K orig miles. Unfortunately it had the triple nickel 555 Cummins and everyone I spoke with said these were junk and dont buy it despite it running well and a $1,000 price.

Cool, I always like of hear of old Dodges tha are still workin'. If you don't mind me asking, what engines do they have?

#25 ·
the 70 tri ax has a 250 cummins & is in rough shape wedge brakes , the 73 has a 671 detroit with s cam brakes and 13 speed roadranger. The 73 we call the Hurricane It's wound out all the time, sounds just like a Hurricane but the truck has good power and is a good worker. It's loud in the cab, one of my guys says ya got slam your thumb in the door just to get your mind off the noise. I'm always lookin for a good dodge tan or tri dumper.
have a good one !!

Hi I have 2 of the old batwing dodge dump trucks, they have done real well by me I use them to haul asphalt.:usflag :usflag
I said it wrong; they said the triple nickel Cummins engine was junk, not the truck itself. I was told dont expect the engine to last much longer it was considered a throwaway motor.
