I know one of you guys out here knows this. Is there anyway to set the injectors on a 3406E without the wonderful "Special Tool" from Caterpillar. I had to replace the cam and rockers in mine and need to set them.
Thanks Tony. I broke down and went to Caterpillar and $100.63 later I know am the proud owner of one.
I put this camshaft and rollers in and the thing sure sounds different. Its hitting on all 6 but it has a different cackle to it out the stacks. I put in a new injector had the 4 digit code entered in the ECM. I then took the new injector out when I realized I had a blown head gasket. Fixed the head gasket and when I went back together I put the old injector back in. It still has the 4 digit code of the new injector in the ECM with the old injector in. With this make a big difference.

Nope, not one, but setting them all with test codes would be the ticket :thumbsup
1) 5232's
2) 1100's
whichever makes it idle best, but you'll get more power either way!! :happymugs
Forgive me I am E model dumb. Is this what is called the flash files? I know every injector had a different number on it. The Cat book said to have the code entered to max out performance of the new injector. What exactly does the number do?
They are called balance codes. They do not max the injector, they make them idle smoother. The afore-mentioned codes are the "max" codes. There are a few others, but you start getting into ECM writing to balance idle...
Thanks Tony. This thing idles smooth it just sounds different going through the gears. I think it may be the camshaft with half the miles mine had on it may have something to do with the sound.
--Bojoe--I Dono? but my Boss does!--I assit him on Cat tune ups--& He don*t use any special Tool--from CAT--that I know of??--I*ll ask him Tommorrow--I have installed many CAT injectors --the Boss tunes them UP by the Pump--& most of our customers are Owner Operaters & the Boss can really make E*M FLY!--He He!!-Ole JIM-
