I am looking at getting my first diesel and I am a ford guy through and through but I want to have a wild truck that can put down a patch of smoking rubber take whatever I can dish out at it and smoke the competition at the track both in speed and literally.

I am a ford man through and through and ideally I would like a cummins power superduty but that is not in the cards. making a high HP 7.3 is costly and making a high HP 6.0 is risky and costly. making a high HP 12 valve is relatively cheap there easy to work on (NO ELECTRONICS!!!!) and they don't die.

I want a automatic transmission and from what I hear dodge trannys arent that great.

so without further talk can you lay some ideas on me? I want a reliable 450-500 HP diesel. to start.... 4x4 automatic

Well, the stock Dodge auto is fine, as hard parts go. Just weak hydraulics in stock form and a crappy t/c. For 4-500hp, you WILL NEED a built auto and t/c, any brand. Dodge or not. That will be the most expensive individual thing you'll need, unless you get a set of twin turbos. Also depends on who builds it. I have a Goerends, and he is the best bang for the buck I could find. He builds top notch stuff and won't rape your wallet. Great warranty to back it up.

What are you using as the platform for the project? I'm partial to the '86 I had. Have ridden in a 12v powered SD F350 4x4 dually w/ a ZF6 behind it. SWEET truck!

Would suggest a '96-'98.4 12 valve. Will take fewer parts than the other to achieve your HP goals.

As for 500hp being a big dog at the track, there are guys street driving 600-1000hp trucks, so look out. Don't get a big head. ;) They'll hand it to ya. LOL

im looking for a single cab longbox 94-98 dodge 2500 4x4.

the main thing is that these trucks are cheap and can be made to go fast on the cheap and last forever. the most expensive things I can see is the drive line the diffs tranny and tcase are pricey units. I live in Edmonton alberta and we have NADP's headquarters about 20 minutes from my house. they built a 10.46 commonrail dodge and they have a 12 valve that I beleive is being forcefed 120 psi in a shop truck. its a nasty beast. plus they got a 12 second dually. they know there dodge inside and out. so I am wondering if any one is running a NADP auto in there 12 valve?

im running NADP's full race tranny, i have had absolutly no problems with it at all. it holds all my power all day long and am confident in it.. would recomend it. also like others have said try to find a 96-98 12 valve, they have better pumps for high hp..
I would say some DDP 4's, 191 dv's, maybe a 64/71/12 turbo, like a 100 or 0 plate, AFC mods, and maybe studs would get you there reliably. others will pitch in who no more about what combos make what HP....

What are you using the truck for? Are you going to be towing at all? If you're towing and running 500hp, I recommend twins. Also a built up transmission like other guys have said.
DDP 2's or 3's, maxed out rack travel, 022 DV's, and the right turbo(s) should get you there. DDP 4's would probably get you into the mid to upper 500's.
