I just bought a 1993 Ford L8000 Oil truck with a 8.3 cummins. The truck is a total dog especially on hills. Not putting any black smoke out at all when under load. I have had L8000s before with 8.3 and they pulled better than this one. Truck runs and starts fine. Very smooth actually, just a slug. How hard is it to turn the pump up a little ? Engine is supposedly rated at 210 HP.

Si vous avez l'injecteur intégré P7100 le pompent assez facile de le faire et un de notre membre dans a ici l'assez bon détail comment le remonter.

If you have P7100 inline injector pump it pretty easy to do it and one of our member in here have pretty good detail how to turn it up.

Merci,Marc

Kevin have someone check the AFC. It's in another thread i did here. I never turned the pump up because after the guy replaced the o ring it was like someone shot the truck full of nitrous. No need to do it now it's pulls excellent.
Read this, it may be your problem it's common.

Check the number on the pump. It will be Bosch, but it might be either the P7100 or the MW pump. The P7100 you can slide the fuel plate etc like on the 12 valve pickups. If it's the MW pump, there will be a large screw on the back with a jam nut. You can turn that in a couple times for some more power with those. Our Case 8920 has a 8.3 with the MW pump.

i have a 1996 8.3 with a 3060 allison, installed 3000 rpm governor springs, 0 plate, 7psi more boost adjustment. tons more power and " peppyness " compared to the stock 250 hp i had, feels like a sports car now... BUT, beware of exhaust temps, i installed a pyro and it only takes a few seconds to get the temps over 1250 if you keep your foot into it, i get slight smoke under hard accelleration, but even though i have to back off on grades i still have gained plenty... i wished i found a good part number for a stock bosch 8.3 high hp (375-450 ) marine fuel plate, i think it would maintain the power but bring my temps down by matching fuel better.....

I still want to do this since trhe truck is still a dog compared to it's brother(my other L8000) with the Big Cat in it. How can I tell if it's a p1700 or an MW ? I can't find any plate. Is there an obviuos way to tell ? Also can the pre boost be turned up like the 3208^T or is this different ? The 3208T I was able to turn up fuel and pre boost separatly.

Also in this pic
when you say slide the plate forward do you mean towards the front of the engine ?
Just want to be sure. Also if I am understanding this correctly, I can slide mine forward without gringing it and it will give it more fuel ? I'm not looking to pull any sleds just a little more umph...

It should be the P-pump in 93 anyway. Yep, just slide it towards the front. I tried to clue that in with the picture, to make it look like I was pushing it fwd. Full fuel and pre-boost are separate here too. Once you get the plate tightened back up, and putting the cover back on, notice the slotted holes for the bolts. You can run it(AFC housing) forward from stock. If you arent worried about smoke, you can slide that full forward too. Then, there's the star wheel to fine tune the pre-boost. If it's at 210hp, you should be almost 300hp by doing this.

It's at 210hp. No smoke at all from the truck. Not even under heavyload. I don't wanna burn 3$ a gallon diesel like mad, just want to get this thing comparable with my 3208T.
