looking at a 01 cummins with 255k miles on it, owner "says" that all it needs to run is a new injection pump. if that is the case and all it does need to run, and it was maintained and not beatin on, with that many miles, how much more life is left in the engine, head gasket, turbo ect ?

Before I bought my 02 (new) I checked with Cummins they said that the P-pump motors in light delivery vehicles (FedEx truck) will last 250K and what I call a second gen engine IMC will last 400K before overhaul. Both engines will overhaul 5 times for a 2million + mile life span. Well we do not normally work these engines that hard and I have a first gen with 350K on it and it burn a quart of oil about ever 3000 miles unless I am towing. So the short answer with good care about a millions miles.
