dt 466 fuel issue

hey guys just purchased a 1995 ih with dt466 that has gave me some problems soon after getting it, ran fine from the start then would run for around 10min. or so then like it was running outta fuel so changed all filters fuel, air, oil etc.. same problem thought it may be sucking air somehow checked for any leaks in lines wet spots etc. nothing.it will start back when it dies but rather hard to start, let the truck set for half an hour or so it will start as soon as you touch key,my injector pump repair guys are saying the rail is going bad in the pump is this true? and how do you go about locking the pump for removal are they like cummins need to be locked before removal? all help will be greatly app. times are hard trying to save all i can thanks in advance

your description sounds more like a collapsed fuel line to me or a water seperator that you might have missed
I would also like a definition for the rail in an inline mechanical pump
Some 466 pumps have an oil pressure saftey interlock
Never enough of JohnG should be along soon with a better answer
most times 466 question get answered faster on the MD forum http://www.thedieselgarage.com/forum...sprune=-1&f=65

It could be there is dirt/debris floating in the fuel tank and when it gets suck up against the fuel line going out of the tank it plugs the line. After engine stops awhile the dirt floats away from the line since there is no suction holding it and the line is opened again. Then the process starts all over again: I have seen this happen many times. Drain the tank and make sure its clean.

Duh why didn't I mention that , I had a detriot with an intermitant fuel issue , it had wood shavings in the dip tube, and the would intermitantly plug the elbow, blew the line back several times but they stayed in the tube, if I had drained the tank and blown it back it prolly would have worked
Long story longer took a bunch of crap off to get the tube out of the tank (was checking the fuel lines for restriction at this point using a vaccum pump and guage ) and found the restriction in the tube. usually the simplest answer is the solution

FUEL TANK

It's 95, means 15 years old. When I getting this old truck - fuel tank comes out before I have registration.
