hard starting cold 03 6.0 L

Hi Guys,
My truck has been having some hard starting issues when cold over the last little bit. it cranks over and seams like it is going to start then dies off. When it does finely start it puffs a little black smoke then turns white for 30 seconds or so then clears up mostly. There is a oil leak from the back of the motor (looks like rear main) which I think is the ICP.

I took it to a shop, not a dealership and they said they had no problems starting however they say the turbo is shot? Their test on the turbo is to load it up when hot and see how bad it smokes. They said that it smoked heavy at about 2200 RPM. I realy feel that it does not need a turbo, if there is an issue with the turbo I would say it is the variable vains sticking.

The truck has 250,000 Km on the truck and has been a basket case since I bought it use @ 30,000 km. last issue I had repaired by Ford under warranty @ 150,000 km was the head gaskets.

Any thoughts on what is wrong? Im thinking ICP or glow pulg related. I want to plug the truck in and see it that helps. The truck starts good when it is warm.

OK I went out and started my truck just now and it smoked white for more then 30 seconds it was more like 5 min. almost till it started getting some warmth to it.

What does the exhaust smell like when it is smoking white. If it smell moist like coolant then you might have a bad EGR or HGs. If it smells like diesel then you might have some bad injectors. Also I would agree on the turbo vaines are stuck. A good cleaning could fix that.

Just got my truck back from more warranty work, i took it in for hard starting. my truck needed dummy plug seals, when the oil pressure is low, the fuel injectors wont work right. your engine might have an internal oil leak.

So I plug my truck in last night to see how it would start and it started great this morning. Glowplugs or glowplug relay, do you think that is the problem?

Ya glow plugs and thier module could make a differance when its cold. And vyou would think the cel would come on, but all the warranty work ive have done, ive yet to see the cel on my truck(other than start up).
