EBPV
This will be my first winter with my 7.3, and I am concerned that the EBPV isn't functioning. Weve had some mornings in the high 20's already and I can't hear the valve working at all. How do you test it?

Does it go to high idle at all? It should go to high idle and the EBPV should close at the same time. It is triggered by engine oil temp. If neither is working you may have a bad sensor. If ponly the EBPV is not working then it would be pretty much isolated to that. Mine was getting lazy opening so I just unplugged it. Maybe make sure it is even plugged in. If the truck is new to you, you may not know what the previous owner may have done. It might even be removed for that matter.

The truck does go to high idle. I checked and yes the actuator is plugged in. If the actuator is bad how much do they run to replace? Is it removable from the turbo pedestal?

Why even worry about it? It doesn't affect your warm up times at all. And if it does, it isn't noticeable, even in single digit temps.

Yes I know it's not really a big deal, I just kind of like when things work as intended to. Also considering using it as exhaust brake.

the EBPV is good for a couple things
* wasting diesel fuel * making the truck very loud to where people say "hey your truck sounds like crap" just unhook it! I would say that it would help warm up if you had a high idle somewhere in the 1500-1800 range, thing is when your driving it only comes on at very low engine load, and at the light load theres not enough power produced to even "force" the engine to warm up. therefore i render it useless IMO

I'm with the OP, I like everything to work as it should.
Currently mines unplugged, I'm getting ready to order up a new EBPV Tube, GP relay, and fuel bowl heater (thats unplugged too)

I used a test light to check power at the control side of the EBPV actuator connector. When I start the truck, it goes into high idle, and the test light comes on for a short period and then shuts off so I am assuming everything on the control side is working. Some people say that these actuators stick? Is there any way to free them up?
