remote start/kill switch cummins m11
I would appreciate some help. I have a m11 in a 2000 volvo wg64 with a hydraulic boom on the back. I need to install a start/kill switch near the control levels for the boom which is 20+ feet from the start/kill switch in the cab. Does anybody have any information on how to do this? I would experiment but this engine has a computer so I am afraid of screwing the computer up. Mechanics want 90/hr to work on it and won't tell me how many hrs it would take.

You should be able to just put another Ignition switch at the remote location in a weather proof box and run a Cable with wires that corispond to the ones on the factory switch, I would also put a switch aon the main power wire to the remot so that you can eliminate it from the circuit with out walking back to the remote.

Thanks for the reply, but I turn a key and push a button to start and just turn a key to kill the engine. Of course the under dash is full of wires and very little space to work in. I was hoping somebody would know of a way to at least install a kill switch.

The ignition switch is the A terminal in the OEM option connector. You could run cab ignition to switch at the back to the 86 pin on the relay, and when activated break the connection to kill it. 85 terminal to ground. Power to 30 pin wire from the À`terminal cut to go to the back other end terminal 87.
That way you would start it in the cab and you can shut off in both the cab or the truck. You need a normally closed switch at the back they have them so you have to hold them to `open`the only bad thing is when killed at the back the ignition would still be on at the front, you would have to shut that switch off. Hope that helps! You can put a start switch at the back with power going to the start button, at the back, and other wire to the relay wire on the firewall if it is a Freightliner. You do not need a relay for the starter button as that circuit is open at the button or ignition switch.
