2006 cummins ISX

I have a '06 w900l with a cummins ISX it is an ex swift truck. The day I bought it it blew a head gasket on the way home. Had that fixed and nit really had any problems but it seems really sluggish and sounds rough when pulling a load we never load over 80,000 lbs it is averaging 4.8 mpg it just and throttle response is very slow anyone have any suggestions or is this just how an ISX runs thanks alot JJ

How many miles on the trucks?
Is turbo still original?
Do you have turbo boost gauge and whats the readings?
Do you have a pyrometer gauge and what the readings?

Congratulations on a new truck, just keep in mind you are dealing with a time bomb as this is ex-bigfleet truck... It's common that they starving air after whole turbo-egr-actuation deal is not working properly - fix it or you will kill it again...

Here is first, easy thing to check: turbo open/close conditions - its gotta be moving quite freely up and down with some resistance from spring inside the above actuator:

The truck has 541,000 miles I have put 41,000 miles on it since I have had it. The head gasket was done at 500,000 this is how it has always ran since I have owned it. I also have a n-14 and a c-15 they just run so much better more power and better mileage. I didn't know If all these engines were sluggish and bad mileage. Really been unhappy with it since I have owned it.

ISX is only sluggish when sick, the whole idea of VG turbo make them very responsive. But when its not working properly (ECM dont wanna close it) you get 400hp motor (is it?) with big turbo

Id say its always better to get rid of ALL stupid fleet restrictions. Thing is you still have 1650 torque, that HP bump don't make that much of a difference from what I've heard

did they give you that damn 500/1650 ecm tune because they are not worth a damn. The best luck I have had with my isx have been with a 450/1850 then with a 535/1850 and my last one is a 475/1850. But as cummins is allways changing there tunes it can be hard to find a tune u like. U also have the option of deleting all that crap and starting fresh. But as art stated your truck is sick if it is sluggish.
