68RFE problems???

Well I'm at 107,000 miles and might have my 1st "real" problem Its been a trouble free truck since day one, now am I joing the club of those who have had issues???

Noticed the other day that the tranny was down shifting 1 and even 2 gears when in 6th with the slightest accleration. Instead of being able to accelerate at 60 to 80mph just using torque with out downshifting all of a sudden it wants to drop down in gears. Two different times when getting up to speed it would only go up to 4th gear, and no higher. When this happened the EB would not work. Now if I stopped, shut off engine when stuck in 4th and restart it would go through the gears and EB would work. But it still wants to down shift a lot more.

BTW, oil and filters were changed several thousand miles ago. Also no codes showing up on dash, overhead or with my code reader.

Any suggestions where to start looking before going to a shop??

Can you test line pressure?

Put the truck in first gear and shift it manually, Make sure each gear is there. I hate to say it Mike but I think it may be shop time. Maybe rebuilt time. but you really cant complain to much since it you make it this far.

Neel, I can manually shift it to each gear with tow/haul both on and off when its not frozen to 4th.
I wonder if its electrical problem since the eb quits working the same time it freezes up in 4th but works normally the rest of the time. I guess if it was electrical a code would show up though.

I will drive it for a few more days and monitor the situation.

Went by a repair shop today and had them do a scan. Showed Codes P0729 and P0218.

Still thinking its electrical/sticking solenoid.
the P0218 code is for high oil temp reading. Hoping its a electrical issue to because haven't done any towing recently, oil pan temp when stuck in 4th for 20 miles was only ~135* and oil still looks and smells new as it did 7000 miles ago when I changed oil and filters.
Probably be going to shop next week.

Truck at the trans shop and got bad news They got to pull the trans and open it up. This shop does nothing but transmissions and is the only the 2nd 68rfe they seen that needs a rebuild. Lucky Me!

Full rebuild ~$3,800 with a 3 yr, 100,000 mile warrantee. I will get 80,000+ miles in 3 yrs.

When I find out more on exactly what happened I will post it here.
