power steering on a 2005 f350
Looking to see if anyone can help me out?I have a 2005 f350 diesel.I was driving the other dayand I started to get a vibration in the steering wheel when i stepped on the brakes. As I continued to drive I began to have problems turning but could still turn.I parked the truck and notice power steering fluid all over the under side of the truck.Any suggestions on where to start ?IIm a ok back ward wrencher but money is tight so I need to attempt this on y own instead of bring ing it to the garage. Thanks

If its the gear box, I picked one up from these guys http://redheadsteeringgears.com/. Great to deal with and the gear box is simple to change out. Not to sure about the steering pump, maybe somebody will chime in.

Start simple, check the hose fittings on the pump, the reservoir, the hydro boost and the steering box. I took mine in for work once and when I got the truck back they were loose at the hydro boost. Made a huge mess.
Anyway, once you check the fittings and clamps, clean things up with some hot water and dawn or tide detergent. The reservoir is under the drivers side battery and once the battery and air filter are out of the way you can see the pump and steering box and all of the pressure hoses. Clean as needed, check everything, run the engine and have someone cycle the steering wheel and push the brake pedal. You'll find it, and there's not much in that system that's too expensive to repair or replace on your own. And I have done a pump on mine. Buy the wrench, remove the fan and shroud and it's not bad. Try doing it with the shroud and you'll want to sell the truck.

Not sure if I have the same problem or not, but I have an 2004 f350. Sometimes when you do down the road with no warning the wheel will jerk real hard one way or the other. The jerk is so out of the blue with no warning that I almost hit someone head on. It only happens every once in awhile but when it does happen its all you can do to keep it on the road. If your going at a slow enough speed and jerk the wheel back and forth couple of times it tends to go away. I've had the machanic at work tells me that sounds like a steering box, and someone else said maybe power steering pump. Father in-law says its a track bar. Any ideas would be great
