random stalling?
hello guys. Truck is an 06 250. 142,xxx miles. Bone stock. replaced FICM 1-6-12 EGR also. cam sensor replaced 12-08-10 (20,000 miles ago). Truck was at dealership 5-12-12 for diag, came back with a glow plug circuit open cyl 7 (only DTC). This thing randomly stalls while driving. Its really becoming a safety hazard, however it starts right back up. Sometimes it goes weeks without stalling other times its 2-3 times a day. Can anyone tell me what I'm chasing? I can't afford to keep taking it to a dealer for them not to find anything. It gets the oil and fuel filters changed every 5,000 miles with motorcraft filters and rotella 15-40 oil. PLEASE HELP. Its driving me insane!!!

That sounds like a tough gremlin to find. I would start with going over the entire engine wire harness.
Do you have a way to monitor and data log live readings? How about a fuel pressure gauge?

I've done the "wiggle test" on every harness and clip I can reach. No way to read live data or fuel psi. I know I need gauges to properly monitor critical components on a 6.0,but I've yet to get them. Everything was in check while hooked to the dealers computer (or so they say).

When did this stalling problem first surface? Was it before or after the ficm replace? And how does the stalling occur, like coming to a stop or driving at steady speed? Main battery power and ground connections would be the first items to check. I agree with lilpooh, could be a tough nut to crack. But purchasing a simple and fairly inexpensive device like a ScanGauge-2 could be a very useful tool in helping determine the right direction for a resolution. I think the stickies section at the top of the 6.0L forum has some wire chaffing info, have to look myself.

Here is the wire chaffing info, if you can't open it here, then go to the stickies section.

The stalling was occuring before the FICM replacement. Dealer told me it would fix the problem. It stalls at random ( completely stopped, accelerating, decelerating, steady speeds,etc.). I will read up on the chafing info and recheck batteries and alt. Thanks

Another thought is the ignition switch or steering column harness to the ignition switch.

Since there are no codes, like Harry I would suspect key switch or a fuel problem. Anything else should pop a code. You could have a bad fuel pump, you could have a bad fuel connection, you could have a bad fuel pump relay, you could have a plugged fuel filter, you could have......... . Test, verify, repair. Does any one know if a code will set if the FICM were to lose power?

Fuel filters were just replaced. It shuts off like you turn the ignition off, no sputtering or bucking. I'm looking into a scanguage and Fuel psi guage to help try and eliminate some possibilities. Thank for the suggestions. I'll report back as I go through the investigation.

Any bubbles in the fuel when watching the fuel in the secondary fuel filter bowl (cap off)?
