Non adjustable wheel bearing assembly

I beleive that the assembly is a Conmet (atleast the drums are), but it is the wheel bearing assembly that has the sleave between the inner and outer wheel bearing.

According to a Conmet page I found, the spindle nut needs to be torqued to 300 ftlbs and engage the locking tabs. If the tabs won't engage, tighted more until they will.
The locking nut that is on it has 2 locking tabs, oposing one another (6&12, 11&5,10&4, 9&3 etc...)

Is this the correct method and torque or has there been any updates with different torque ratings etc...

Go to the meritor web and check for torques. I think it was around 5 or 600.Its ok if you have to back it off to lock it.

also note that the specs are only valid using the EXACT correct bearings. if a different brand or whatever bearing is used, you must remove the spacer and treat it like a normal bearing assembly.

here is a link to the service manual :

Right about 2:58 they mention the OEM preset sleeve and leave it out and use dial indicator to set play like regular bearings.
