Cummins ISM Low Power

Engine in Foden Truck and the driver is complaining of low power and slow pickup when accelerating. Engine smoking black when under load and fuel consumption has increased.

Insite scan has shown no active or inactive fault codes, checked the turbo and after cooler lines and found nothing unusual, new air and fuel filters but no improvement. Did a top set but same results.

What I noticed before changing air filter is that it was black as though exhaust soot is being sucked into filter but no leaks was found on the exhaust. The driver told me that he has to change his air filter reguarly because the filter is always clogged with exhaust soot.

What am I missing here

Is the air intake close to the exhaust stack? If it is, then one of them needs to be moved.

Pressure test the CAC and intake!
What I do is remove the pipe from the turbo and pressurize the system into the engine look for leaking at the intake area, see if there is a lot of preasure from the CC-vent. Then isolate and test the CAC to 35 lbs for 15 seconds it should not loose more than 4 lbs.

If you have an exhaust leak under the hood can the intake draw in that air.

Intake is mounted high at the R/S rear of cab so there is no possibility that a leak under the hood can cause the intake to suck the exhaust gas.
The exhaust stack is under the left side of the truck
