Cutting out while towing
Hi Well I'm on vaca pulled 150 miles no trouble ran 70-75 mph then truck sputtered and cut in and out . My scan gage shows icp at 600 when idling and ipr shows 21 at idle temps on oil and water are good . My fuel filter has about 2000mi on it I have owned truck since new and always used 5w40 changed at 5000 mi . It has about 600 mi on this oil chg . The thing I find wierd is after I got off the hiway it seemed fine and I put about 300mi on it with out trailer and it runs great Also I get no cel or codes. My truck is 2005 stock except egr up pipe has been replaced with one from rcd and egr is unplugged also I replaced the turbo about 5000mi ago with a new not reman turbo . So what do u think injectors going or is there something else I should check. O I almost forgot I had my ficm repaired 2months ago and it's reads 48v Thanks for any help

What were the oil/water temps while towing? Could be an injector starting to malfunction, not really sure of the cut in/out symptom your describing. Does it stall completely, or just bucking/jerking? Could also be a intake leak and under higher boost levels while towing it shows up. Check all your cold air tube intake boots for leaks.

You could call it bucking it does not stall just sputters I'll look at the towing temps today when I pull home. On the intake thing Ck at the heads or the cac pipes. Also if I have a injector going would I get a code? Thanks Harry

I just worked on a guys truck that had some of the same issues. When I would turn the key on not all the injectors were cycleing. (no codes present) I replaced the defected injectors and has been fine since. Are you haveing any starting issues hot or cold?

Well it sputtered home I tore into it and found the front plug on the ficm was falling out. The inside clip toward turbo broke I zip tied it in runs good now But that brings my next question where is the best place to get a new harness also it looked like the connector was arcing and burnt two pin holes and about a 1/8 inch off 1pin on ficm I'm worried about the ficm pin Also do u replace intire harness or just pigtail to ficm. Thanks for the replys So much preventive maintenance and something small like a plastic clip can cause so much trouble

You can purchase a replacement/repair connector separately, like the ones here...
http://www.shopdieselspecialists.com/category-s/121.htm or and entire engine harness from Ford for around 600.00 is what I've seen them going for. Or go to a salvage yard and cut off the connector you need, and purchase some good solder melt type electrical connectors like these... http://www.calcentron.com/Pages/elek...onnectors.html (these work great and you only need a hot air gun to melt the solder..we use these at my work all the time). As far as the Ficm pin damage, I would contact one of the places that rebuilds them like, http://ficmrepair.com/ they may have a solution to save you money from spare parts that they have. Harry
