Thinking about buyin a new 06' 3500 SRW. I'm not sure about the reliability of the 5.9L, when it is chipped/programed. Reading some of the threads it makes me think twice about doing it. I don't want to buy a vehicle that will have trouble running with a 6.0L. I was wondering if there alot of people are just not installing cold air intakes and exhaust along with the programmers. I would like to hear some things about the new 06' Dodge w/Cummins. Please let me know what you guys think and what you have installed on your vehicles. Thanks

I'd buy injectors, twin turbos, a performance module, and exhaust the day I buy the truck...that's if I could afford it in the first place. Meaning, it'll take whatever you throw at it, just like they always have been.

Yeah, they will hold up, you just have to make sure you buy a quality product. the issues I have seen are with people either buying whatever some small hop up shop has in stock like a superchips tuner, or not supporting the power they put to the truck, i.e., throwing on a TST or a Crazy Larry and not doing at least a converter and Valve Body or a better clutch. The rest of the truck can take it though. Also, if you are going to do it, do it right. I'd throw on a set of nozzles or injectors as well, if I was running a big box on one of these trucks. The more fuel that you can put through the injector in a shorter period of time the more fuel you will keep in the bowl, therefore getting a more complete burn and Lowering EGTS while not burning up your pistons. In short the truck will take it, it will take it well and it will be fast. My friend was running 13.7x with a Crazy Larry and a Converter, I think that that should keep up with a 6.0L.

On a side note, everyone I knew with a 6.0L kept it stock and had nothing but problems with them, so they all traded them for dodges and haven't had an issue yet. Not trying to bash, it could've just been the '04 model year, but that is my experience with them.

the 6.0 is like a snowflake...each one is different. Some have problems from the get go and are dogs, others are fine and run like animals! The 5.9 is super tough, anything you throw at it, it will handle it with ease. Mod the crap out of it and it will still get great mpgs if driven right....and if its not driven right you will need rear tires sooner than expected

Just for laughs, drive a 06 Duramax (LBZ/360hp).
It gives nearly "chipped" power right off the showroom. Today a guy ran 14.5 in the 1/4mi at Pomona with NO TUNING. ![]() The "manual select" 6-sp Allison is the best pickup transmission ever developed. You can use it like a manual, or let it shift for you. And if you don't chip the truck, it will last for hundreds of thousands of miles. Common for trucks with the Allison to have the original trans at over 250k. But in real life, 300+ HP is plenty of output for 90% of those who tow. But if you want the biggest power, right now it's the Dmax.

Yeah, maybe biggest off the show room floor, but I don't see any Dmax's making what Garmons truck makes or many others for that matter.
