cat 3116 problem
It quit running like fuel filter was bad, changed the filter and no start.I checked for juice and gnd. on solenoid, got that.I took the solenoid out and the pintle out of solenoid, put solenoid back in without pintle and she runs.I then drove it back to shop 3 hours away, put a good solenoid in and now it is doing the same as before.Do anyone know what it may be or had this problem before?

When you changed the fuel filter, did you fill the filter with fuel and/or purge all the air in the fuel lines?

filter
I filled the filter up and took plug out at top of filter boss and filled it up,this one has no manual prime pump.I noticed it would not pull the fuel after taking plug out again, fuel didnt go down.I did loosen lines but nothing happened, can the valve that the solenoid pushes stick.

A couple of questions dirtrider.
1 Does the solenoid click when you turn the key on? 2 What chassis is this engine in?

The solenoid clicks when the key turns on,it is in a 93 gmc bucket with a pushbutton tranny control. It could be a 95 though,we had just got it and were working it out of town.I did have to run it out of fuel by taking filter loose to shut it down, took forever.I will take the solenoid back off and check that little flap thing in there monday, thanks for helping.

I have seen some problems with fuel lines on the GMs sucking air. They use an automotive style hard plastic line. Also take a look at the pick up tube inside the fuel tank. If memory serves me right I believe there is a bracket in the tank that supports the pick up tube.Sometimes the bracket will wear a hole through the tube. If this does happen the engine will act up when fuel level drops below the hole that gets worn in the tube.

Sometimes the governor or rack will start sticking. There will be in an increased effort on the "little flapper" deal in the gov when trying to shut it down.
