Security at idle
Ok, a friend told me that he saw a Dodge CTD with a set up that would shut down an idling engine if someone opened the door with the alarm on.....Is this true or BS? The reason I ask, is I plan to let it idle on short runs to the store or whatever to take better care of the motor, and wanted the peice of mind that the truck should be there when I come back out. Any input?

I'm not sure if there is a system like that or not. I know that there are some systems that let the truck keep running and you remove your key, if you don't have a key, you can't put the truck in gear, therefore it is hard to steal. That doesn't do a lot of good if you have a 6spd though. I am sure that there is some way to rig it up and make it work. Alarms are can be door handle activated. Its definitely do able.

The alarm I had on my diesel and the one on the current truck is a remote starter and alarm system all in one.
If I get to a place I’m only going to be a little bit and want the truck to stay running I shut the truck off and get out and then restart it with the remote. You can open the door and it will stay running but if you touch the break or throttle it will shut off unless you have the proper key in the ignition and turned in the run position. |

That sounds like what I was thinking of. Who's remote start did you go with? I still want to put one on my truck.

Are the New Rams equipped with chips in their keys? And, will alot of this work with the 6 spd's? I do know everyone is afraid to install auto start on a manual transmission truck. I guess there are people that would leave it in gear and try to auto start it.

Here is the web site with some info on the system I have.
It is the Prestige system. The alarm starter system is the 2nd one. http://www.aceelectronics.org/remotestart.htm |

Looks like a great system! Lots of features. I was mainly considering a 6 spd, but after driving both today the auto is looking favorable for me.
