The OOPS thread.

This is a thread dedicated to a project that you screwed up. One that made you go Automotive, household, work related...anything.
I could write a book but I'll just put a couple.

I was changing the oil in a 1984 Ford Tempo in the driveway and while I was filling it up I was checking everthing else under the hood. Not paying much attention to anything else. Finished up, picked up the tools off the engine and walked to the garage, put the tools in the tool bax, turned around to see 4 qts of oil on the driveway...Forgot the oil plug

Same car... needed brakes. At this point I had never done brakes before in my life. Seemed to take forever but finally finished. Time for a test drive!!!
Head out of the drive and start driving towards the stop sign at the main road OH CRAP!!! no brakes!! I forgot to pump them up after finishing.

Post em guys... I know you ain't perfect :

Ok...I'll spill this one since Russ allready brought it up.

My dad gave me his 1950 John Deere Series 50 tractor for Christmas. Has the old hand clutch, seperate brake pedals, all that stuff. Had the back blade on over winter for moving snow around. My dad comes over one day to use the tractor for whatever.......and parked it in front of my garage when he was done. When I get back home, I'm gonna plow snow. I get on the tractor, fire 'ol John up, and start plowing.....kinda. It was moving real slow and strange. I step on the brake to stop, look around, nothing wrong. Cool, away I go.......kinda. NOW, all I can do is go in a damn circle!!!!! Right side rear tire is locked right up. Oh no, I broke the damn thing allready. I try everything I can think of to free it up. Still going in a circle. Shut the thing off, grab my cell and call my dad. Tell him what its doing, and he starts rolling on the floor laughing at me. When he can catch his breath, he tells me to take the parking brake off on the right side!!!!!! Seems this tractor has seperate parking brakes for the rear as well. I did not know that. I ask my dad why he didnt tell me about that, I got the typical, "You never asked about that." He says, 'How else ya gonna keep it from rolling when its parked on a hill?" I tell him I leave it in gear and drop the back blade.

My dad still brings that up and laugh laugh laugh at me.....

Same as Russ...did the brakes on a friends car, forgot to tell him to pump them up first. He puts it into drive first and proceeds to punch out the back wall of my garage. Didnt harm his car, thank god. At least I was able to add on that lean-to to the back of the garage like I wanted to after that.

My nickname on my routes has been "The OOPS Man". Almost every single day I do SOMETHING that makes me go . My customers just laugh at me, and I hear about it days later....

Good thread idea, Russ. Some very funny stories.

I was putting a timing belt in a 71 pinto got all done went to see it it would start. Yup sure did but I had left my 1/2 ratchet and socket on the crank bolt. So off to the radiator repair shop I went....

Or the time I was putting in a clutch on a chev truck, can't remember the year.
But the cross member was such that I could not get it out on the hoist. So I took a screw up jack post thing we had lifted that side of the truck enough to be able to swing the hoist arm out of the way. In comes this guy says I need air for my tire grabs the valve for the hoist and throws it in the down position. He thought he was turning on the air hose until the truck fell of the lift. I had done this several times before. But just happened the safety dog on the hoist was stuck and did not swing down this time.

The remote push button starter things. Ran car through the overhead door.
Was adjusting the choke high idle. Got in the car put in in R and It dies. Went back under the hood made an adjustment. Reset the high idle cam hit the button and the car started just fine in Reverse.
