Golf Cart

Im not sure where to post this, so I've decided to listen to what you guys have to say. I play golf constintly!!! Im going to college for it!!! So since I love diesel power so much I want to find a small like 1 cylinder or maybe 2 and swap it in!!! Would it work do you think? I saw the 700 Artic Cat in Diesel Power...so I would think a golf cart could work...Any input would be great!

Thats going to be a pricey swap. There are some small diesel motors with transmissions becoming available now that you may be able to make work. Or since you don't need to go that fast, a generator engine may do well for you. You could always gear the rear end high, and then do a divorce mount transfercase to work as a 2 speed, but shift on the fly would be tricky without a clutch. I guess you get to start engine shopping.

I found one new on Ebay for $400, its 10hp, but the only problem i see is when a golf cart stops it doesnt idle...it just stops ya know??? I also saw a pic of a cart in diesel power with a stack...the guys give me looks and yell when i pull up blowing smoke in the parking lot...what would they think if i let some out driving hole to hole!!!

(FYI I am engineer and work for Ford lol) At Ford the goal is to make the part barely good enough to passing DV (developmental validation) testing....If it passes way beyond the test then the part was overengineered, and content needs to be removed to reduce cost.

I CANT KEEP UP!!! HELP!!!

I think it'd be pretty hard to get to work. But if it did, it'd be awesome, and you'd get like 200 MPG.

That's the way most golf carts are.

I wouldn't mind doing something like that in the future because the party of the country where I want to live I have freinds that live about a mile in each direction. So I'd probably have to put some bigger tires on it because I'd probably have some driving I'd do in open fields.

You'd probably have to put a stack or two on it to keep it quiet on the course. The stacks do a good job of channeling the sound up where it can't reflex off of anything.

Usually 20 hp set ups.
