Dual Alternator Setup

Does anyone know what parts are required for the dual alternator setup? I did not get it with my truck and was thinking about installing it.

Seems to me that I have read a few posts saying this "upgrade" was NOT an easy one to do after the truck was built. I can't recall the problems encountered, but there were some issues. For some reason, I want to say the routing or bending of a particular tube was/is needed. I'm sure it can be done, but to what extent. I think people who have considered going to the dual altenator, were convinced to check out just purchasing a higher output altenator - not necessarily Fords' heavy duty one, but an aftermarket one. Not much help I know, but I'm sure this will get someone to respond with some greater knowledge... :

It's more than bolting on another alt,belt,etc.The PCM is also programmed to control the 2nd alt.
Unless you can find a way for the computer to talk to the added alt. I dont know how you could add an alternator.
Perhaps SCT tuners could help?
I debated removing my second alt.until I found out about the computer issue.

I agree with the others. Adding one after the fact is very difficult and very spendy. The easiest route would be to put a higher capacity alternator on instead of your factory alternator.

Whenever people are ordering a new truck, I always tell them to order the dual alternators if they even have an itch that they may need it in the future. The $300 at time of order is small compared to after the fact.

Don't even try it. You are better off getting yours upgraded. You can go to about 200 amp in the stock 3g case. Going any larger will require external regulation where you will have to mount a separate voltage regulator. To go dual alt it like swapping an auto for a manual trans and vice versa. Just trade the truck.
